Y33 click when I try to start car

A few weeks ago I jumped into my car and try to started it and it didn't turn over and it just clicked, and then it fired up the second time I tried. Well today it wouldn't start even after multiple times. At maybe the 5th or 6th time it clicked again and I kept the key in the start position and intuitions told me to step on the gas pedal. As soon as I stepped on it, it fired up right away. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but I just don't see why stepping on the pedal would help it start...?

So what are your guys' take? You guys think it's the starter going bad?

first... is your negative cable tight?
normally intermittent starting can be due to that.
Also.. check the status of your battery,.

I have the same problem. I've checked all my grounds, replaced the battery connections on the end of my positive and negative main battery cables, and replaced the battery... problem still occurs. I've been trying to avoid the inevitable... My starter is bad. It looks to be a pain to replace as well.

Hmm... I'll give the battery terminals a check. But if I recall correctly, my seats were still getting into its place when I attempted to start it and my radio was on as well. Would they be off it it were an issue with it grounding?

It sounds almost like it is the starter. Did the exact same thing on my mom's Altima. I'm just trying to get insights on this, don't wanna change something that can possibly be okay. It looks like a pain in the ass to change. Have you gotten any quotes on it?

This is common'ish problem within the JZ-car family as well (Aristo/Supra/Soarer etc.) all you have to do is take off the starter and open and clean from inside, also replacing of a few copper terminals might bee needed if they've gotten too "eaten".

I'm also sure it's the starter.   I've had that same problem before.

Have you tried this before? Might as well buy a new starter while your at it.

i'd start w/ the battery terminals, then move on to battery health check..
if that doesnt work.. pony up and do the starter..

Sounds like It's the starter.  Mine was doing the same couple weeks took several times for it to start.  I found out it was my head gasket and something else.

If it was actually trying to start as in the motor would almost catch then I'd say yeah it's the head gasket. But if u try turning the key n it just doesn't click, go to autozone n they'll check your battery, alternator and starter.

Looks like I have to remove the rack and pinion to get to that bad boy. Have you replaced yours?

I agree, if I have all that out might as well replace it with a new one.

Looks like mine didn't do neither of that, sounds like the starter. They have a tool to check starters at Autozone?

starter. mine does it every once in a while.

I did with my Aristo. First off it started to just click sometimes when I tried to start, took a couple tries to start, then one night the starter solenoid completely shortened out and the solenoid just kept on clicking (jammed) when the ign. power was on. Towed the car back to the garage and checked connections - all ok, took the starter out and dismantled it and found out it was filled with copper dust from the wear'ed out terminals (which I didn't replace 'cause I was in a hurry to get the car back on the road ). Plugged it back on and voila, started working like a dream... But yeah if it's clicking, you ought to 1st check the connectors with a gauge, and if everything is in order, then take that off... Also I just don't see any point  in getting a new 500$ starter if you can clean your old one for zero bucks or overhaul it for under 50 bucks :shrug:

And yeah I don't know about Nissan/Infinity starters, but they all are relatively easy pieces off mechanic/electronic hardware so not much variation between diff. car manufacturers. Fix one, same principles apply to the rest off 'em... just my .02

No quotes to replace it. Just going to do it myself. I have the new starter sitting in the garage, just hadn't had a big enough block of time to tackle replacing it.
