Lexus GS400 Major Overhaul

[SIZE=4]Its been a while since I have been very active on here.  Life has a way of taking priority over cars.  I have been working for a while on my redesign.  Since the end of 2010 I have been stocking parts.  This thread will document my build over the last year +.

[SIZE=4]So I decided to sell the wheels and start over.


It has been a very trying build and there have been multiple obstacles on the way to get her to where she is now. I still have a ways to go before she is complete but I feel that it has gotten to the point where I can share my progress.


The first part of any build is teardown. Teardown is exactly what happened here.

[SIZE=4]Redid the trunk setup. Managed to fit everything in the spare tire well. 2x 480 Compressors/2 3Gallon Tanks/3x water traps/Manifold[/SIZE]

[SIZE=4]I decided to cut open a hole in the strut tower so that I could get the car lower. I did not want to leave it open to the elements or look like it had been modified. So I asked Carlos (gsoup) to put his skills to the test. He did a great job in making it look as oem as possible. Thank you Carlos![/SIZE]

[SIZE=4]I ordered custom wheels that took about 6 months to be delivered to me. This caused a massive delay because there was no way that I could ship the car to the bodyshop without wheels.


Here is what they looked like when they finally arrived. I ordered as aggressive as I could. The company could not make more aggressive.

[SIZE=4]I tried mounting the rear wheels in order to see how much work needed to be done. AS you can see there is quite a lot of work to be done. There is no way that I could have pulled to accommodate the wheels as the quarters were already pulled to the max to fix my last set of Supremes.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=4]Now here is where the biggest problem that I had came into play. When I ordered the wheels I let the company know that I would be using Supra TT calipers. However they screwed up and the face desk too low to fit over my calipers. I needed a 20 MM spacer in order to clear, however I had 25MM spacers already in hand so I wasn't going to waste more money for 5 mm less.


I measured the wheels without the spacers on just to see how much the stuck out. However in actuality with the spacer on the wheels were out so far that when I dropped the car, the fender was sitting 2 inches from the end of the tire.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=4]So I knew that I had to find a body shop that could handle the build that I wanted to complete. I took Zeb's advice to use the body shop in North Carolina that he used. So after giving them a 3 page build sheet and talking for weeks about what I wanted done. Exotic Paint and Body came to pick up the car with an enclosed car carrier.  Thank you for making the trip Daryl and Wes! It wasn't an easy trip as they burned out a bearing on the trailer heading back to North Carolina, so instead of being a 20 hour drive it came out to a day and a half drive.[/SIZE]

[SIZE="4"]I had purchased a set of aristo headlights that were ECE from a japanese ebay seller a few years back in order to use for a retrofit.  I had these lights finished in the end of 2010 by Rich from HIDILLUSIONZ.  LS430 projectors in the lowbeam with Bixenon E55/745Li projectors in the high beam.[/SIZE]

So you are using the regular aero bags on the coils? And won't it still rub?

[SIZE=4]I bought Aristo JZS160 Power Folding mirrors.  However I wanted to update the look in order to keep in unison with the whole car.  So I bought Mercedes R Class Mirror covers and had Exotics mold in the turn signals puddle lamps.[/SIZE]

[SIZE=4]Had to do something on the hood except my JP Wing.  I decided to buy Rodney's 745Li Hood grille and get it installed in my hood.  It was a perfect fit right in front of the windshield washer nozzles.[/SIZE]

I am using shortened aero bags in the front to give it a better ride at a lower height.  However I have not rubbing problems since going with the UAS tophats they eliminate all rubbing.

Thank you!  I planned for a while before plunging into this build as I have done mods before, I didnt want to do it little by little I decided to do it all at once so this is the end result.

So after picking and choosing thorough 15+ colors, I choose one that I felt gave homage to the stock color but was nothing close to it.  It has a ton of pearl under it.

So as the car was getting closer to completion Daryl had asked me to arrange to get down to the shop so that I can see the work in person and approve it before he started prepping it for paint. So I bought a round trip plane ticket from NYC to Greenville, NC.  Left at 6 AM from JFK had a 45 min break in DC and transferred to another plane.  Arrived in NC and got picked up by Daryl and driven to the shop.  It was one hell of a wake up call when I saw the car in person.  Pictures can only do so much. When I saw the car my jaw hit the floor.  The work was amazing and it was exactly how I wanted the overall look and presence of the car to be.

I was happy with the way the car was progressing and that it near completion.  I spent the next few hours with Daryl going over the rest of the work that needed to be done.  After that I went back to the airport for my return flight.  Left my house at 5 AM arrived back in NYC at 8PM, it was a tiring day but I was so happy that it didn't matter.

That hood grill definitely fit perfect on the Aristo and compliment the car's front grille too... Very proportional... Nice choice and thanks for taking it off my hands... LOL

looks good bro. brushed lips are so nice, i think i'mma do some. molding the lip kit is just asking for trouble imo, but it does look real nice. made some nice moves, but kept it sublte at the same time. well done.

Probably my favorite GS build stateside...beautiful execution and soooooo subtle!...I LOVE IT!

Really like these wheels! Paint and fender work look great too. Looking forward to seeing this at some east coast shows this summer.
