OG/RE Daily - '08 STS-V

So maybe another G50 wasn't the best idea for a daily...

I knew they were finicky, but this one just seems to be fighting me. Even though I didn't like my Titan as much as I thought I would, I really miss having a newer warrantied vehicle. After realizing that I spent more than a note would be fixing things on a regular mandatory basis I decided that the only answer was to by another, yes another, car. So just in case you're losing count that's a UCF10, a UCF20, and 2 G50s; of which OG52 is the only one even semi-drivable. Fortunately Khanh has decided to complete his UCF30 build, so definitely keep an eye out for that.

The stroy begins with the homie Gato trying to put me down with a CLS (C219) that came into his dealer. If you don't know, that is a car on my "someday" list. It was ultra low miles and priced great. So great that one of the salesmen bought it before I could get to it. My mind was made up though, so I started looking at Genesiseses since I had already made the decision that that would be the car I bought if I was going to buy new(ish) because of the value. I spent a couple days looking at them, and was ready to pull the trigger, when Gio called me as I was on the way out the door to make a deal letting me know that the CLS came back. Unfortunately we still weren't able to put it together, but with the extra time to search I started looking at 300C SRT-8s. This lead me to the biggest car lot of all time to track down a low miles car that was at a steal. Upon arriving at the dealer I was overwhealmed by the inventory and made a list of about 20 cars to check out. The STS-V was on my "maybe" list, primarily because an inactive VSC member from Cali who I have stayed in touch with had bought one a while back. So after looking at a few LS430s, a 911, couple 300s, a couple low milage B-body Impalas, and a low miles 2GS I walked up on the Cadillac. The rest is, as they say, history.

So here she is in her black on black on black wood, "suede" trimmed, stitched dash and panel, tech loaded, 429HP, supercharged Northstar glory. 1 of 429 2008s (of which 32 were exported), she is right were she should be milage wise. There is some buffing, PDR, and minor wear to be dealt with but overall she's pretty clean.

Plans include mudered out emblems, grills, trim, wheels, and brakes (Brembos BTW). I'm gonna do some simple bolt-ons like lowering springs, stage 2 intake, axle-back exhaust, and maybe an off-the shelf tune. Nav bypass, paint protection, and some all weather floor mats should round it out. The great thing about this car is I'm not really tempted to go in vs. other cars that I buy with the intention of tearing apart immediately. Hopefully, this will be a "sensable" daily driver for me for at least a couple years. Hopefully...

Didn't realize they made the STS-V. Thats actually a very nice idea. Love the size and style of the STS vs the CTS!

i thought about that as well but have decided to do niether. i don't want to deal with the emblems to murder it out so i'm gonna go with the new cts-v scheme and just do matte black wheels and yellow calipers. that way it stays true to the brand while being a little custom at the same time.

it seems very cosmetic. i'm actually thinkinhg of switching to the '08+ non-v front end, then recreating the look with e&g mesh grills.

Forum image

the projector fogs and lines of the bumper are better imo. the only thing i'm really worried about is loosing some cooling functionality (bigger mouth, brake ducts). i plan to add an upgraded s/c intercooler and an additional resevoir, and have also started looking into brake duct relocation.

i will also most likely be switching to the '06-07 non-vented fenders. if every car on the face of the earth didn't have stick on vents that look exactly the same i'd probably keep them, but they do so i probably won't. looking through pics the early models have the cleaner side proifle.

got it back. waited on my pdr guy before cut/buff. got backed up on the night before buff, got a door opened hard on me in a parking lot that creased the fender, and ran my shit up on a curb actin' stupid. never had this bad of luck with a car. I still drive it, although I rarely drive anywhere lately. going to go ahead and collect all the parts I wanted in the first place and eventually do a sporty build. part of me wants to slam it but I think i'm going to resist.
