"LUX" style tuning?

So they are calling VIP stylized cars that aren't traditionally VIP platforms "LUX" in Japan apparently.  It was apparently a big thing for this years Tokyo Auto Salon.  There is an FD on the cover of Modified Magazine that is done in this style. 

Discuss...  any thoughts?

according to DXJP, the "Vip" most of us are doing or into is more "LUG" in Japan, we're for the most part not old school enough. I'm sure he'll chime in on this too.

I am actually a fan too but, I know there are some opinionated folks on here so I figured I'd throw it out there...

its more on the lines of DUB. They featured the VeilSide H2 and 300C with some reggae dude.

LUX is hot, the Looking RX7 on the cover of Modified is extremely nice, and I think the black convertible on the cover of May' Import Tuner is a wonderful example of LUX as well, though they don't actually claim it as LUX, but "VIP Styled" i think is how the call it.  not mine, though i wish it was...

i would think that the title LUX style would suit a car that is not a VIP platform to start with but modded with vip flare and accessories like the FD, JZA80, Silvia, Soarer, G35, etc.. i really like it a lot and i would hold my head high and represent LUX style anytime in my SC300. the true VIP cars are ofcourse Cima, Fuga, Cedric, President, Aristo, Crown, Celsior, etc....the list goes on. it gives hope to tuners that dont have or wish to mod 4 doors but still get that VIP look on the cars

So LUX = what Falken calls Autoluxury now?

LUX is just used as a marketing scheme.  As long as you pull it off right, you won't have to ask if it's ok to mod that way...

Found "LUX" mag. @ Kinokuiya, and also found "J-JUG". Didn't get it though. It looked too much like the stateside mags. What's the Diff. between "J-LUG"  and "LUX" .They all look like "DUB" style to me.

last time i checked "DUB" style or DUB's were 20+ inch spinners, (aka Sprewells)  cars with ostrich and gator interiors, TV's falling from the ceiling, Chevrolet tipped exhaust pipes, and trunks popped going down the avenue with neon glow signs hanging out of them.....Oh; that originated in the South (texas, louisiana, alabama, mississippi, etc...)

now to all of the readers and tuners of the VIP (style) scene, take a good look at the JP 350z, the 240 in the current import tuner, Looking RX7 in Modified, Vertex Ridge Soarer, and any other LUX style cars from Aimgain, Garson,  Blow Design, Fabulous, etc.

Actually DUB is more along the lines of the Luxury European and American cars and trucks being put on wheels that match the body size (22s for large luxury sedans like the BMW 745 and the Chrysler 300 and 24s for trucks like the Navigator and the Range Rover).They don't use spinners now, It's moved to color coded wheels with chrome lips, and understated aero-packages. Also a pretty low-key but very capable audio system is installed in them. it originated in California.

You then have Texas SLAB style in which you're talking about with the trunk poppers and  neon signs. These cars are Loud both sonically and visually. They're normally on EXTREMELY expensive 15" wire wheels that are sourced from a now defunct company. The 15" 30 spoke wire wheels are called "Elbows" "Swangers" or "84s" or "83s" 83s are the cheaper of the two wheels and they range from 2000-4000 for a set of 4. the 84s are the the more popular and the more respected and will easily pull $6000. Sometimes slabs can take inspiration from the Hi-Sider style....

Now to the Hi-Sider style. That's what everyone always calls "Donk" that' is the incorrect nomenclature for that style. It's Hi-Sider, Hi-Rider, or Hi riser. anything with Hi- in the name is the correct name for it. These cars started in  Miami and their main purpose isn't for low key stuff. These cars are the cars with the "gator seats" and the "TV's Falling down" Their main purpose is to shock and awe. Whether it be with "Oh that car looks stupid" or "oh that car is hot" they just require you react to them. that's it, no more no less:)

There's different sub-sects of All forms of car customizing beneath the commercialized versions.

Just like there's strong feelings as to what constitutes a VIPcar versus VIPStyle, and AutoLux, there's differences in what constitutes DUB, Hi-Sider, and SLAB styles.

And believe me, the SLAB guys are JUST as fervent as you guys are about VIP.

Bottom line is that the "Lux" style is probably here to stay.  There are so many guys and girls out there (most of them young no offense) not needing a big body four door sedan like me.  Furthermore as we all are aware this VIP thing is pretty expensive, and more important somewhat difficult to pull off because of trying to source parts. 

Also they've already spent a bunch of money on their cars (Ds, 240s SCs especially).  What'll probably happen as soon as this VIP thing has gotten really popular, is they will start converting these "drift" and "grip" cars to "Lux" style.  

Nothing wrong with it, as long as they can keep up with what I saw in Modified over the past couple of issues which featured a very nice S13.4 and an FD.  I think the "Lux" style should be pretty cool.

Yea if this happens that would work out fine, but I don't think it will work out like this. Whatever happens will happen.

30's are NOT swangers or elbows or 3's or 4's, they're cragars aka trues (cheap look-a-like)
 
83's and 84's are from their respective yr cadillac. 84's poke out more than 83's thats why they're worth more.
 
houston has been slabbin cars longer than 20s have been around and are NOT inspired by hi-rises or donks (which are called that because of the type of car , chevy caprices and impalas) not their styling.
