After 7 months, I couldn't stay away. Always wanted a Ucf20 facelift chassis and after selling the ucf30, and driving a sports car for a while, I found myself wanting another sedan. So here I am. After a week long search, trips to NYC and around Northern Virginia, I was lucky enough to find an immaculate, 1 owner 99 Ls400. Only 62k miles, all serviced by Lexus and kept in immaculate shape, here she is in all her glory.

Doesn't need much, but the radio lcd is shot, so I am looking at some double din options and maybe you guys might know....after roughly a quarter turn on the volume knob, the speakers will begin to fade erratically and crackle. Any way to diagnose whether its the radio or amp? I prefer to keep the audio stock except for my radio, but I would like to get it squared away as soon as possible. 

Also, here is the old ucf30 for something more interesting to look at, since we all know what a stock ucf20 looks like.

One way you could tell if it's the amp or the radio is replace one of them. If you still have the issue, you know which one it is, if you don't then you also know the one you just swapped out is the problem. If you can do that then you got it, with this method it isolates it easily. If your plans are a double DIN you'll most likely replace all that anyways. Check the fuses and connections, but it's most likely a faulty component due to the output getting crappy. I, for one, will be watching to see what you do with this. Hope it's good to you! Enjoy.

Mine did the same thing and I had a double din in it. Replaced the speakers themselves and it stopped.

$10k, you should build one too, this one is kinda on the back burner while I look for places to live and build a cafe 'racer'.

Thanks for the input, changed the deck to a Pioneer with Beat Sonic, no luck in fixing the issue. I now assume its the amp, unless something weird is going on with the speakers...but nothing appears to have been touched otherwise.

Did you replace with aftermarket speakers and amp? I am intrigued since you had the same issue. 

Thanks everyone, so far I have just installed a new radio with Beat Sonic, the install was super smooth and even though the cost is high on Beat Sonic, I feel it was worth it, the factory audio is plenty for me.

did you get the whole kit from beat sonic? the bezel surround looks to match the factory panels well!

Yes, I purchased the entire SLA-22 kit, I recommend it if your willing to spend the cash. I have seen the Metra kit and it actually looked pretty good as well, which could save a decent chunk of change.
