Dark Anghell, if you are serious about getting one, they are GREAT cars! AWD and 330HP and, at least in my opinion, the Audis have the best interiors. Get a 2001 or newer and the #1 thing is: get a warranty! Audi Assured car will be the best one to get, the only thing they dont cover is wear and tear items such as brakes, tires, wipers, etc. If possible get an S8 as you wont ever want anything else, but they are still $35K plus with decent mileage. They are a blast to drive!

i would love to own an A8... i would do the same, on DH's... but i read on the vw/audi forums you cant run staggered rims on an AWD cuz it will mess up the center diff. the front and rear tires will have different diameters and wont rotate at the same speed so the center diff will wear out way faster... but id go 19x10's all around, same tire sizes but different offsets front/rear for the staggered look...

That cracked me up. 

H&R is in Seattle. They have 25mm spacers for this car, probably in stock ! :)

I've done as wide as 10.5" on all four corners of these cars. They have a ton of room!

mista808, as with any tire sizing, the objective is to get the overall diameter of the tires to be equal or as equal as possible. This is for the speedometer to be correct, for the ABS to work properly, etc. Look at Porsche, Lambourghini and other luxury performance cars, they all use staggered fitments with AWD and have no problems. You just dont want the front tires rotating at 700rpm and rear tires at 750rpm as this could cause a lot of problems.

That A8 looks good, just goes to show that stance makes or breaks a car. We should have pictures of cars like this as a sticky for the other sedans portion of the forum.

Kenji sent me an e-mail and said you guys were on here chatting up the a8. Thanks for the nice comments!! I am no longer selling the car, looking to keep it and start taking it to the next level... since just doin a big service on the engine, the car feels like new again!

to reply to the offset comments...
the Quattro is allowed a diameter difference of almost 3% difference front to back, and having a difference bigger than that would cause the differential to lock up during normal driving conditions, causing it to wear and eventually break.

the wheels sizes are 19x9 frnt and 19x10 rear (et35 front and rear), with a 245/35/19(F) and a 275/30/19(R) - even with the difference in width of the tires, because the front is a 35, they even out to less than a 1% difference in diameter, therefore fine for quattro :) 

anyhow, i thought i would drop into these forums, i am loving the style on here (obviously) and again, thanks for the comments

So in essence you CAN run spacers front and rear as long as you keep within the constraints you mentioned.  IE: adding a  25mm spacer to all four corners. or even adding a slightly bigger one to the rear to keep within the percentage.  It would at least help your fitment issue since you can't exactly perfect it due to Quattro.  Am I off bat here?

not quite... the only thing that really matters when it comes to quattro and the differential is the diameter of the wheel and tire together - as long as the diameter of the rear wheel and tire are the same as the front... the quattro would not know the difference.

to find out the approx diameter of your tire, you use a tire caculator like this one here...

nice car Mike, im glad to you see you will keep the A8. not many people know what these cars can do, they just think of them as big german cars, which they are, but man these cars have balls! although an S8 is twice as fun to drive, but thats another story.

Haha, I do wheel/tire fitments all the time.  I understand how to do that math, that wasn't my question.  So, since you said the only thing that matters is what you stated then running spacers shouldn't be a big deal.  That was my question..what is keeping you from running spacers if the overall diameter is "all that matters".

spacers are irrelivant to this issue. the differentials have no idea how far out the wheels are from them and it makes no difference. everybody is saying the same thing but in different words, lol
