building a VIP Stylized 9th gen corolla... yep econobox

So here goes nothing. I've had an 04 STI which I built into a fun toy car. Ended up selling it due to disinterest and constantly fixing little issues. Then went to a 92 eg hatch. Full built motor lots of power no traction and waaaaayyyyy more issues than the STI. Life changed, I got out of the Navy, going to school now so econobox it is. Great gas mileage, no frills. However I'm still addicted to modding so figured I'd make the car as appealing as possible.

Old STi made 450 whp on 93 and meth, very fun car

92 hatch which made 563 whp on 93 pump... nasty little thing

And now to the 2004 corolla. Looks rough now but I've seen a few VIPstylized corollas and figured I'd give it a whirl. Trying to not buy too much stuff that can't be transferred to another vehicle, since I'd love a proper VIP car... however gas is killer and honestly I don't wanna worry about the car when its parked at school.

The car as it stands right now... rough I know.

Heres what all I've got coming to fix my issues:
Clazzio quilted seat covers, except mine are black on black with black piping

This should go quite well with my Junction produce neck pads and hip pads. neck pads are a little on the large side so I may have to take them to a tailor and get them cut down a bit. That can wait till my seat covers come in and I see how they look. Hip pads are also a little fat for my tastes so they'll go in the back seats.

Other random crap I don't feel like getting pics of till its installed:
clear fog lights (ordered waiting to get here)
muteki lug nuts
08 scion arm rest since it's comfier than the corolla one and bolts right on

Future plans:
Install everything of course
some kind of lip kit
Tint
HID retrofit... the stock lights are horrible at night
Rear tray table (I've got some ideas)

I have alot of stereo gear to go in too:
Pioneer avh5600bhs (already in)
Jbl ms-8
Scanspeak d3004 tweets

dayton rs225-4 woofers

I'll keep this updated as much as possible

Muteki lugs for the wheels, I've used them before... coating on them sucks but they came free with my coils from import image racing so can't knock emForum image

Also started to change my interior over to black to match the new seat covers. Wrapped the pillars in black vinyl I scooped up from the local fabric shop. Pretty easy to do, however could be better. The stuff doesn't stretch too well. I'd love some leather or alacantara but $5 a yard for scrap black vinyl is hard to pass up.

Here's the progress I made on my diy vip table:
Used cardboard to mock up the exact dash shape and table I wanted

Forum image

Then traced it out on 3/4" mdf and cut with my jigsaw

Sanding and checking fitment

Now just to mock up the upper portion while I wait for my cup holders to show up. Gotta figure out what I want to do for standoffs too

Well thanks guys. Glad someone is curious

Side note I ordered a bunch of rear shims so I can mess with my rear camber to make it all fit nicely. As soon as I get a little free time I'll throw on the fogs which came in the mail today.
Another side note, I called and changed my spring rates from 8k/6k to 12k/10k which will delay the ship time a few more days... ugh sucks. They said they'd need to go back and revalve them for the higher spring rates. Oh well glad they could accommodate. Thanks import image and bc racing!

I'm also having a hard time tracking down a decent lip kit for the car. The oem lip kit is ugly and doesn't flow well. There is a discontinued vuteq b kit which I'd love to have. Kinda thinking I might be forced to go with the knock off version:

Honestly not really thrilled about trying to make it fit well but I guess when you choose an oddball vehicle you gotta improvise

While it isn't a VIP platform, looks like you are on the right track. I grew up in Potomac and remember when the car scene was big out there. Question though, what made you build the Corolla and not pick up a cheap sedan? Just wondering. Keep up the good work,

Got the corolla for cheap and already had it. Also it's amazing on gas... all other vip cars are not. Student right now so bills and stuff keep money tight.

It's chrome accent strip with a 3m adhesive back. Got it from pep boys. Same stuff you can get off ebay. The 3/4" sized stuff is a perfect fit for 3/4 mdf, hopefully it can hold up to some heat in the car during summer. If it can well then it'll definitely be worth the low price of $15 lol.
I actually got the idea off another forum member here, so thanks to them

Plan on putting the tweets and these dayton mids in my pillars. I'll have to fiberglass some custom pillars. First time for everything right?

I'm also going to be cutting up my doors to shoehorn in some 8" midbass, again daytonForum imageForum image

Honestly not really sure. I might end up wrapping the lower half of the doors since the panels will need to be cut to clearance the 8" midwoofer. Ideally I would like to make the cuts perfectly surrounding the speaker such that I can just pop a grill on to cover the imperfections but we'll see how it comes together.

Had a few minutes to work on the car so I debadged the rear. Love the look, however the paint is badly pitted and you can still read toyota and corolla. I need to take some time and cut and buff it... hopefully it evens out

Forum image

I also found out the horrible black door trim is just attached with 3m tape. Pretty sweet! Maybe tomorrow I'll have time to pull them off.

I also ordered some tires for my wheels. Went with ultra cheap nankang lol
205/40/18 for the front 8" wheels
215/40/18 for the rear 8.5" wheels
still no news on when the coils will be here, since the bc ultra lows are made to order

Awful side moldings removed! Car is looking cleaner already. Can't wait for my tires to get here tomorrow then I cn get them mounted and balanced. One more step to a somewhat appealing vehicle... maybe get it to the point where it's hard to tell it's a corolla lol

shit got lame around here - if you dont like something and comment on it - your a hater so the scene and the environment has led to the the saying if you dont have anything good to say then dont say anything at all. people only want to hear the good things - cosign after cosign - nice whip - im looking forward to more progress - interesting

I like the DIY approach - stylistically i would mash up a known Japan VIP kit to further emphasize that its VIP styled - not feeling the VIS lip kit or the platform itself

it made sense when we got a huge influx of noobs but now theres really only a lot of moderation in the for sell forums. like 33flavors said, people got butthurt when your opinions didn't mesh up with theirs and a whole lot of bickering ensued and eventually the forum just lost a lot of action. people love to do shit for the e-fame rather than just what makes them happy.

Getting those headlights redone since they charged me to have them done just to get the car inspected... let's hope they last longer than a few months this time

Also got 2 tires mounted since I'm still waiting on the other 2 to show up. Last night fedex didn't feel the need to knock on my door. They just left a tag saying I wasn't there even though I'd been there all night. Needless to say I'm pissed about that.

I barely even post on here anymore. Everyone has moved onto Instagram but it's not the same. Honestly I like your build more than a lot of builds I see even though it's not the right platform. Everyone just buys a beat to shit LS or GS and gets stupid low offset wheels that will never fit, pull the shit out of the fenders until they look like bacon, then adds a bunch of camber with Megan arms and claim they are killing the game.

for the head lights you can try buying window/headlight tint. i had the same issue with my wifes car where i would buff them and a couple of months later it went back to gross. i bought a blue tint (with isnt that blue, just enough to show that it has a blue tint) and it made the car look better in appearance and i did'nt have to worry about the oxidation coming back/showing. i'll try to post a pic to show how bad it doesnt look. lol

So I kept working on my front table today and am hoping to get opinions...Forum imageForum image
Heres where I need the opinions:
Option 1: I can keep the full cup holders in there like they are and just wrap them in some chrome wrap so they look nice. I'll add some dowels wrapped in the wood towards the ends for support.
Option 2: cut the cup holders flush with the bottom of the upper portion so there is space in the bottom and use dowels as stanchions, which I'll wrap in chrome vinyl or even wood vinyl.

This looks great - I would cut the cupholders. I think it would be better to see more of the bottles.

The only thing I couldn't stand on this site is the people claiming what is and what isn't VIP style cars. VIP is a style and I think it can work on almost any sedan/wagon/suv.

Finally got the coils installed, I need to roll and pull the fenders to get my wheels on it. I'll prob have to raise it up some since the stock wheels are 15s and my ssr are 18. At least till I get the rear camber shims and everything sorted.

Had to remove my front sway bar and endlinks since they were hitting the frame over pretty much every bump. I also took a minute to test fit the SSRs. Definitely need to go buy camber bolts and roll the fenders so I can get nice and low

Got the seat covers on, just need the panels to come back from paint. On a side note, I realized I'm not really too wild about my junction produce neck and hip pads. They really aren't very comfy. I think I'm gonna sell them and look into other brands. Any recommendations? Forum image
