Puddle Lights...

Do those things come in a kit or is it basically universal or set-up custom...?

Either or.  There are kits sold and people make their own.

Anyone have info on how to make your own?

There used to be a link to a tutorial on another site, but I can't find it. if you search long enough you may come across it again.

Basically what the person did though, is use bolt style LEDs (an LED, with a screw-in based socket) and screwed them into the underside of his sideskirts.

All you really need are the LEDs, appropriate resistors, and a way to mount them.

oh man, hate to burst your bubble, but you couldve gotten them for like 25 at jlevisw.com i believe.  my first set was bought from them at 40 but i ended up running over a dead dog, causing me to rip out some leds, so i just said screw it and bought my other set for 25? at the website mentioned.  5 leds per side, and it looks to be the same kit.
anyways, show us some pics when done

Got me some blue puddles with strobing at a flip of the switch with 4 LED's in each puddle from Japan(same ones the Black GS4 on UAS from X/K is running).  Don't got me some side skirts so they be sitting in my house along with other stuff which I have never got around to installing!  LOL

btw, a tip when installing. make sure you actually plug your lights up and then mount. because if not, much like i did the first time, youre going to end up with zigzags. and these are adjustable, but only so much, and so much before they rip off again.

I just ordered a set of puddle lights from Japan.  They are all pre-wired and plug into the cigarette lighter.  The cool part about it is that they have different light patterns: flash, chase, and constant.  I got a set of white ones, but I saw a set of hardcore multi color one that rotates 7 different colors.  it was kinda expensive at $100, but to not deal with wiring and to get the different effects was a bonus for me.  I will shoot some pics as soon as I get them installed.

4 or 5 per side?

i always make them myself using street glow single led's, theyre not as noticeable so its a nice touch.

Isn't that how everyone hooks it up? I know I had mine hooked up that way and this was a couple years ago. Mine also comes on when I disarm the alarm, and turns off when I arm it.

This is the single LED kit.  I got it from japan, this kit allows you to move the lights around on different angles.

Actually, that is how I have mine hooked up as well. Since the dome light and illuminated sill plates light up when you open the door, my lights used to do the same. When you close the door it fades out with the interior lights. I can also turn them on independently as well for car shows or just entertainment reasons :)
I'm just surprised that many don't have it wired up to turn on when you open the door since I thought that was the idea behind "Puddle" lights.

I think most people probably are not using them for the intended purpose but for style points. I plan on buying a set in the future, but I live in AZ so there are definately no puddles for me to worry about. lol

Some people are buying funky colors and adding strobes that bounce to Techno music and have little allyway or drive way raves.j/k


But I think the strobes and fadeing light colors along with the sequential chaseing of the lights are becomeing big as a stupid gimmick. I personaly dont like stuff like that it clashes with the straight foward executive style.

ive never seen puddle lights like that before. maybe youre confusing them w/ underbodys?

I have. In fact, the set I have actually has that option. If you move the switch to the music setting or whatever you call it it has an internal mike that flashes the lights to the music beats. I; however, don't use that setting :)

They are sort of in between. Not the expensive name brand ones as I wouldn't pay that much for a bunch of LEDS, but not the super cheap ones. The are flush mounted on the side skirts so you can't see them anyway. At one point I was part of a VIP Style car club that did a few local shows. Some members had the expensive name brand Japanese lights while a few of us went the cheaper route. When on, you can't tell the difference aside from color (Some got white, some got blue). There are some things I go name brand with like I have an all Alpine A/V system in my car, I'm going with Airrunner instead of UA, certain engine parts, got myself some Work KF rims. But for puddle lights? I just use what works :) Either way, I sold that car and building a new project so we will see if I reuse the same cheap puddle lights or buy a different set.  I've used some inexpensive stuff on my show NSX as well and it looked good and was good enough to place at shows. I feel the extra money can be better spent on rims, body kit, and other parts of the car:)

I agree with you but it depends on how the person set up his car too. If the person already purchased everything that is the best of the best (or rather the most expensive products) then I'm sure after some time the person is going to get bored and look into accessories that are the best of the best and in comparison to his other parts, that person wouldn't mind shelling out the extra cash to have the best (or rather the more expensive items). If the person is slowly building their car and wants to accessorize then going the less expensive route would work too. IMO, lights are lights lol...:cool:

No argument here. I see nothing wrong with people wanting the best name brand items out there that money can buy. I myself wont buy cheap parts just because they are cheap. I'll buy the cheap/cheaper part if I know the quality is at least par and not complete junk. I take value in "Value". One example is my Recaro baby booster seat. I know how much I paid, and I also know how much the same product is sold with the Junction Produce embroidery on it. I personally am not willing to pay the extra money just for the name. Some people are though and they are free to spend their own money however they want :)

How are the Recaro baby seats? I was thinking of picking them up and didn't know anyone who had them. Would you recommend it?

I will totally have a Recaro babyseat when the time comes.  I have friends with them (like Chris), but I will most likely get the JP one just because.  Haha.  I only get the nicer puddle lights though, they are billet enclosed units with 5 leds per "light" and are completely sealed ie: weatherproof.  That along with the billet construction is what makes them last longer.  The plastic ones won't last too long at my rideheight.

The Recaro baby seat is awsome. Keep in mind, it is not an infant seat you you guys will have to wait until your little one is at least 20 lbs. There are two types. I have one of the original ones called the Start. This is the one that uses the cars shoulder belt to strap your kid in. There is another one (I don't think JP uses this one) that is a 5 point harness. I'm thinking of getting that one as well as I like the added safety of it.

i got a hookup on teh JP Seat and the recaro baby seat with the speakers in it for infant.

yeah man i totally agree. theres some things you make and they can be better than what you could buy (well in your own mind at least haha). like i said, i just use street glow single LED's to make puddle lights and lovvve how it looks. but i saw the "puddle light kits" at autozone and they look sooo ghetto and have 4 LED's per pod in a circle and it doesnt look right at all. so i figured if people had strobbing puddle lights and gay crap like that itd be from autozone haha.

After reading this I went to Advance Auto Parts to see what all the fuss is about.  Found an opened package on clearance for $5 so naturally I bought it.  I have to say it's not pretty the way it comes but I'm thinking about removing the plastic dome so it doesn't look like a flashlight shining on the ground.  I hooked it up to my floor lights so they turn on when the door is opened or I can turn them on by switching on my interior lights.

using PVC piping will help you get rid of the "flashlight" look....mount them at the top of the PVC pipe , and make sure the bottom of the PVC is flush with your side skirts ....and you should have a perfect nice dot:thumbsup:

ive read all through all 3 pages and im looking for a place to buy a set but i dont want to space them out or anything i just want to buy them prespaced out were all i got to do is mount a bar with all 5 lights on it, anyone know a site where i can find that kinda kit?? kinda lazy but i dont want to be mounting them and remounting trying to get them straight

i havent seen them sold like that, but theyre prob out there. the problem with someone selling a kit like that is they wont be proportional for every car.

I think it looks wierd when the puddle lights don't span the whole length of the car..regaurdless of how many there are. Can someon post a pic of what leds.lights they actually use? I'm curious, and is it a custom install?

those are the same ones I have.  I have no idea how I'm going to mount those with my Junction Prodce kit, especially once I lower it even more.  I can't see a way that it'd be possible for the lights to be seen with as big as the JP side skirts are.
