Rope knots

Do anyone know every names for knots that hang on VIP's rear mirror. Agemaki knot and register knot is all i know, Also is there any guide how to tie yellow rope knot like in the picture on rearmirror?

there are two types of rope knots... golden ones are 金綱 and the silver ones are 銀綱
not sure the japanese pronounciation of it
If other guys would fill in would be awesome^^

to hang them is pretty easy, it comes with two picturehanger type thingy with 3M double-sides
so you stick the picturehanger on the inside of the windshield
the rope knot has a ring at each end, hook each of them to a picturehanger and then you are done! 

and there are two types of fusas - Agemaki(揚卷結) and Kiku(菊結)

Agemaki is a knot that wards off evil spirits
Kiku brings good luck...

as far as I know these are JP items, and only these types are avilable
they are in association to JP's root in Osaka
came from a festival with 300 years of history known as "Danjiri"

FABULOUS also have something similar, its a black lei I think
and a few others use tesseled Juzu

The Kintsuna/Kanetsuna (gold rope) is dead easy to make. I made my own using some thick gold rope from a fabric supply shop. The end pieces were a little harder, but a couple of gold bells do the job nicely. The shape tends to hang without deforming, but once i get off my ass i will get some gold thread to lock the shape into place.

If you just look at the pic nezumimaru posted up you will see how to do it...

Even easier! Beads, fishing line and then the tassels connected to the end.

If you wanted to be [i]really[/i] VIP then of course you would not blink an eyelid when forking over $100+ for the genuine Kanetsuna and $50 each for a Fusa/Juzu. But they are really just trinkets to me and i'd rather spend that cash on some speakers or LED puddle lights...

(mind you, i did buy a Fusa, cos i think they would be quite hard to make)

Nothing, Caoboy. Ropeknots (fusas) are usually associated with VIP rides. That is all.

LOL, religiously it means A LOT of things for the Japanese people. TO ward off bad luck, monsters, give you good fortune, etc. But as far as its purpose in your car. None.

I just made this, it pretty easy. I put cement glue to keep it stiff.

Hehe, looks exactly like mine :) The real one uses slightly thicker rope but i dont think it makes much difference. The end caps took me ages to find (gold and all), but in the end i settled for some tiny bells (since that part is actually only visible from the inside)

LOL, i bought 3 yards of that gold rope from JoAnn Fabrics and 
it is easy to do...

Its funny I have never shopped in a fabric store ever. ;D

Only real problem is that its a bit thinner than the genuine one. I'd love to find some real thick gold rope for that

Then get some gold-plated picture hangars and put some doublesided tape on them and you are set!

I know, I asked them and only showed me what they had..

Imma gonna try another store and hope they have a thicker one.

Try check out the hobby lobby store, they might have the thcik one.

I made my own fusa with this GIF... before I went back to Taiwan this summer and found authentic JP fusa and Kanetsuna... hope you guys will find this helpful...

One perfect miniature Fusa, done with a $1 tassle rope. Actually it was $2, but i got two tassle ropes and gave one Fusa to my friend. Takes about 15-20 minutes though cos they are tricky bloody knots! Might be easier on a larger rope etc, but i just wanted to prove that you can do them. Note JP sells two versions of the Fusa, the simple one (as shown on the second page of this thread, in the GIF) and this one... The first one takes literally 30 seconds to make, but this is much neater/harder

Dont ask for directions, because you seriously need to have a genuine Fusa in front of you to copy off...

Next step, finding bigger tassle ropes and then i can make a full scale one. The shop that had these tassle ropes only had single tassles for the large size, but i am sure somewhere will have them... Right now this is going on my keys :D

Laugh all you want, i am not here to bastardise the Fusa idea (you cant make it without the original in front of you anyway). If I succeed in getting the right rope/tassles for a full-size, I would only ever sell to people who I know have a genuine VIP car. AUD$40 would be a lot cheaper than the 'genuine' one and *exactly* the same.

I say genuine in quotes because Fusa isnt something that JP invented; Its not something that is 'owned' by VIP stylers... Rope knots are an ancient tradition! Even the one I got through Robert isn't a genuine JP Fusa.

Mark, knock-off bodykits are a no-no... But one-off custom kits made from the ground up can be cool, and are definitely accepted in the VIP world. Just because its handmade doesnt mean it doesnt belong on a VIP car!

Look at VIP Car magazine, with DIY features in every second issue. You know, once i figure out the right way to do the knot I might just write in to them and see if they will put it in the mag. I'm sure its something they would run.

I think the whole fusa idea was started by JP correct?

Now all VIP mfr's are doing something. I think it's more of a "brand recognition" as opposed to acceptance into the VIP culture.

FUSA's are a neat little concept and they flow well with the ambiance of VIP style cars. But in all honesty it's not a necessity to have. 


IMO, just simply having a FUSA doesn’t make your car anymore VIP than the next guy. 

(2 my understanding) this is suppose to have a religious meaning..

fusa really is just a type of tasseled rope
but the different knots have different meanings though

these ropes knots goes way back to 300 years ago
they were traditional decorative items that $also serves as a charm
and some of those like the kiku knot, originated from China, is even older than that
you don't need a VIP car to rock it
shoguns have been rocking fusa on horses since way back then

JP only makes two types of knots from fusa - agemaki and kiku
agemaki wards off evil spirits, and is usually attatched on to weapons
kiku is more of a lucky charm that brings good fortune, usually seen in houses

there isn't much religious association to fusa
it's more of a tradtional craft thing, serves purposes as a decorative charm

as for Juzu, it's associated with Buddist tradition

Making one of these Fusa knots is actually really simple. They may look difficult, however, i was looking around online and found out how to make one. so after making two with shoelaces i decided i needed to get a rope with tassels. being like midnight last night i couldnt leave to find one at any craft store. i then remembered that when i graduated from Universal Technical Institute i was given a 54" red rope with a tassel on either end. so i made this[IMG]http://www.flickr.com/photos/58771107@N02/5388700382/[/IMG]

when looking for a good rope and tassel to to make these with search for graduation honor cords. a google search will reveal multiple websites to find these at.

This style of fusa knot is really quite simple to make. it just takes patience. i was on a google hunt trying to learn more about these and came across a site on how to make on. so after making two with shoelaces i decided i needed to get some real rope with tassels thinking it would be easier. being that is was midnight when i was messing around with making one of these knots i couldnt just go out and buy good rope with tassels. i then remembered that when i graduated Universal Technical Institute i was given a red honor cord for graduating the Nissan Automotive Technical Training. so i made this
