Extreme poke/stretch Euro VW Style

i really think that is ugly but if they like it    good on em mate!

I love it! Too bad it wouldnt last 5 minutes in Australia before being taken off the road by the cops. A mate of mine has less poke than the front of that car, and he was recently stopped by a pedestrian who started abusing him and telling him he is a danger to society and that he would call the cops...

I love that car... It takes someone who really appriciates Euro Style or VIP style to enjoy this car. Im sure it would be polarizing on some of the more conservative car forums.

Dom im surprised the pedestrian knew that was illegal. Musta been someone who lost a kid to the modifying craze and all the kid ever wanted to talk about from then on was 'poke'. Guess thats what ill have to look forward to soon enough.

From what i've been told... since those little VWs have rear axle beam susp, they do not really camber in during susp travel, so even guys running semi-flush wheels rub when driving, and if your wheels stick out that much, driving that thing around regularly will probably get pretty old pretty fast. I do wonder if anyone has come up with a true solution though...

Zero suspension travel on the rear?

If he put some dampeners and springs under his seat he wouldnt even notice (except for the tendency to skate around corners...)

You are correct. I was in the VW euroscene for a while. What your are speaking of coined the term 'if you ain't rubbin', you ain't dubbin' ... I was so low and since I only had a 2L inline 4 I just drove SLOW everywhere. The way you fix it is height and dampening adjustable coilovers. If you want to run that low, it isn't comfortable. The ride is sorta like a gokart without any suspension lol...


But none-the-less, we run 'em on the fenders.

I think that bumper and the car overall is a bit tacky. Lacks the euro smoothness.

I suppose it could be euro-lingo, but poke is when the tire/wheel setup (even when stretched accordingly) sits outside of flush with the fender.

drastic "poke and stretch" originated in germany, everyone wanted to run deep dish wheels, but germany laws prohibited the thread of the tire from extending beyond the edge of the fender. So, get yourself some 16x10's, mount a 215/40 on em, slam the fuck out of the car and call it quits.

and when you do it and get it right the wheel/tire combo just flows right out of the fender. Its hard to tell from the photos i posted but the tires/wheels sat in perfect alignment with the curve of the fender line. like they were designed together

fixed up euros like these have always looked too rotund to me... too curvy, round, and bulbous. even more so when people do the smoothing to their euros to smooth them out. They end up looking like what happens when you put clay into a balloon and mold it into a round mass (which, incidentally, is how the first-gen lexus SCs were designed). This is probably why it makes sense that the older, flatter, machined-looking style of wheels are now getting popular again on the new euros, cuz people want to try and break up the rotundness somehow, so they try to do it with the wheels, since the sheetmetal just keeps getting rounder and rounder.
overall, i've always found these extreme euro cars to look too "feminine"... while a lot of the japanese vip cars exude a "masculine" feel.. smooth, but still has strong, sharp, defined features.

I think thats whats always attracted me to them. being rotound, bige (yet small) wide and low. I still love my euro's but am looking forward to bagging a Y33 Cima on some lipped out 19" BBS RS001 (If I can build them) None of the current line of "vip" wheels have ever really spoken to me. Except for maybe the Kenstyle Lock-Smice wheels.

do any of the vw guys who run extreme wheel fitments take any steps to try and alter their susp so that they can drive w/o any rubbing at all? from what i've been told by friends who have had-and worked on-such setups, people tend to just live with the rubbing... but it'd be interesting to see someone take it to the next level and have crazy wheels, AND awesome drivability

If we were looking for awesome drivablity we wouldn't have lowered the cars under the 'level A-arm' point. Sure, coilovers like the KW V.3 allow you to adjust your dampening to a point where you CAN drive the car hard at a low height with almost no bodyroll. There are guys with air suspensions, especially in Europe, but there is also a big movement of cars with the "Fuck Air Ride" mentality.

well, that's just it though... i mean has anyone taken the initiative to make more drastic susp alterations so that they CAN have their small VW sliggity slammed AND totally, 100% drivable? i.e. moving susp points, fabbing an irs, etc etc... maybe there's a big market there...? to offer parts that will allow you to look awesome, and actually ride awesome too

You are correct sir..... No one has done that.  I have alot of work to do, and alot of dreams. we'll see what my shake at it comes up like... its a forever changing process though.

From what I gather (pretty much from reading PVW ;D) Its really an all show thing, where rubbing is a badge of honor... Even the go fast cars just deal with it.

the problem is you would just incour such horrendous dollar/results expenses. You could shim the hell out of the rear of the car, to get camber, but wheelbearings wouldnt like that, and dubs have a habit of eating wheel bearings anyhow.

What Ive always been told is that the German roads are smooth as glass.... making it easier to roll deep... I love this look!

I myself own a jetta thats for sale and im starting to work on a passat. the problem is the twist beam axle. The 4motion models (vw's awd) by necessity are IRS, and so there are some guys that run a little camber, but its not really very popular...u just deal with the rubbing. And yes german roads are OMG SEX. You can tell that country loves cars. Anyway, the new MK5's are IRS even on the FWD models, so maybe someone will get the balls to camber it.

No I love Euro Style. I aggree its funny when people don't get the correct size or fitement of wheels and tires, especialy when they consider themselfs a "tuner"... more like assembler. I still think it's cool to have that euro style but its a funny looking style(to me). Just how you guys think its stupid to have boroboro style, some say its funny, some say its shitty, and some say its cool.

Popular mods include mismatched bodypanels, unpainted aero parts, zip ties, and body damage.
At least that's what it is in the US, because amateur drifters got tired of people calling their cars ugly, so they gave it a name.

dont forget the "every thing is second hand" mod. the "exhaust is illegaly loud" mod, The "I dont pass emission" mod.... majority of the mods for boroboro are Function over Form. to get you drifting

Most people are on coilover setups. Air ride is pretty sought after, but with the readily available kits being crappy (not very low in front due to design) and the good kits (euro companies) being hard to get ahold of and expensive, its not a very common practice. And yes, there is definately an "anti-airide" sector to the scene.

What are the anti-air people's complaints about air setups? Or, why is it that they dislike them? If anything, a well-designed air susp setup will let you ride lower than coilovers, and then park even lower yet, all while still being able to avoid obstacles. 

They probably have never experienced a good air setup...

Either have i, and thats why i am very hesitant to put air on my car. My experience with air taught me that it is soft and wallowy down low, bit like sitting on a giant marshmallow, which isnt good when you have your kit 1-2" off the ground...

im just a believer in the low-is-low theory. not high here, low there, park it lower, etc. one height's all you need. granted i dont have a wack driveway, etc etc.

To be honest, a lot of it is a 'close minded' cheating theory. Which is probably jealousy tossed in with the stigma that air is not suitable for a daily driver. 

Personally I would love to run it, that is if I could find a kit that would suit my needs for a decent price...  :)

air is better for a daily driver than just just slamming your car, wayyy better. as long as its done correctly. what happens is alot of kids think they can order a universal air kit and put it in themselves...and its not that simple if u want it to be perfect. Unlike coilovers where if u have alittle know how its cake. 

The theory behind anti air ride is basically a lot of people in the dub community think its cheating. Then there are the people in the community that like air ride and the concpt behind it, but just go along with the anti air ride guys, just to stay safe and in limbo. I have talked to lots of these people at meets,shows etc... Personally i dont have a problem with running air ride. Its a great way to get the car on its ass and looks great. Obviously you wont run it on a fast car, that you want to drive fast, thats for coilies. People that use the air ride drive it daily and its quite commonly used with the belgians, who seem to make lots of money :D as one guy at a show has a brand new a3 and sprayed it another colour that you can get from factory anyway, put a killer airide system in it and dropped it on some 19 inch carlson rims.
One of the vw mags that i get here in the uk (pvw) loves the vip car scene and hopes that it comes into the euro scene, as they are similar and are both very classy. Thus i am making my daily dub, vip inspired. I think it will work a treat. Anyway, sorry to diagress :)

I wonder where Anti air ride argument comes from whe the title says extreme poke and stretched tires. lets get back to the pics of these cars and not argue about the pros and cons of air ride. this site is VIP and extreme drops are what VIP is about. whether it's Euro or Japanese; Coils or air. This is my 1st time posting and ofcourse the 1st place i go is euro ( i drive a gti) and 
LOVE the VIP look...i come from the 'tex as much dubbers no, and [EMAIL="d@mn"]d@mn[/EMAIL] is this diff...lots of people usually hating and bashing...this place seems schweet....im hoping to get air within the next 4-6mnths...
