Why did the VIP clubs pass on Chaser and Mark II?

I just wanted to know if anyone with a bit more experience in the history and evolution of the VIPcar scene could clue me in to why the Tourer V cars were not accepted as VIPcar chassis. They seem to meet the requirements at first glance, being 4 door, luxurious (Mark II is luxurious), and RWD. I do understand that they are more of a "sporty" 4 door car, but thats really not a great reason anymore, now that the Aristo is an accepted chassis and it came with the 2JZ-GTE. So why did these cars get moved into a different group of tuning? Anyone? Robert?

Not really an answer... more of a guess, and that is not valid answer either, as the Aristo has a following in the drift scene also (specifically the first gen.)

I think its more like what the SC400 is. it has a following of being vipstyle but more sporty then anything you know.

But the Soarer's were 2 door, built on the Supra chassis, etc. Even if you have no idea about VIP tuning you can look at a VIP Celsior and an EXE Soarer and see that there is a difference, but its not that easy with the Tourer V models...???

Does it have to do w/ size? How big are those cars anyway? Are they that much larger than is300s?

From what I understand yes. I have heard that they make the ES300 / Windom look small, which means it has "some size."

I don't know about you guys, But I'd rock that black Mark II with the Works or SSR's any day. That car is sick!! I call VIP drifter

i have a jap. friend (he's into drifting) he own's a mark II here in CA, the car is kinda f*****up-he told me last month that his dad is sending him a chaser, he's done with drifting so he told me that as soon as he gets his chaser he'll jump into this forum right away-take note the chaser will come with work vs-xx wides!!! car is all black (tints/ext/int/) and the vs-xx are golds with ofkorz polished wheels, again wide as hell!! i can't wait to see this, i have this r/c which i showed him couple of years ago (all black with vs-xx old skul silver wheels)-that's where he got the i dea as he told me!!! i've been wanting to own one but it's really hard to maintain these imports-even tho they have cheap parts, still the waiting game is still a pain in the a$$! to the topic i would choose this chaser to be vip'd-if i have lot's of knowledge abouth this vehicle and $$$ i would get this rather than my GS4 ...that's just me ;)

Proportions and appearance is sporty... slim, long headlights and taillights... also makes it look smaller and sleeker. And different crowd has definitely embraced those cars... I believe when you see a fixed up one in Japan, most of the time it will be fixed up sporty/drift style as opposed to VIP style. It's one of those semi-crossover cars where you can sorta easily apply both styles to get an interesting hybrid result.. I remember seeing this dude chilling in an autobacs lot in his sliggity slammed white one with flares and deep bodykit and chromed and cambered work meister S1 3pcs... fired it up, and boned out down the street with the turbos wailing and bov blowing. It was pretty interesting.

except that Leopards and laurels really weren't true M3 competitors from the factory...

That pic reminds of the Acura TL and how close it is to VIP status. 

Reviving old thread!

Cold be the way it was marketed at the time it was released. We may have to find out what Toyota was thinking, or had in mind. Maybe they were emphasizing the power and speed of the vehicle, as opposed to uber-creature comforts.

It was toyota's answer to BMW's E36 M3 from what I can gather... GT sedan...

eh, the chaser reminds me more of the competition for the acura legend.. in looks anyway :-X
