yakuza papers

i have always been interested in the whole yakuza lifestyle and genre of movies but the best of all is kinji fukasaku's the yakuza papers. it is by far the greatest five gangster/mafia movie i have ever seen. my girlfriend just bought me the box set and now my dad loves them almost as much as i do. just want to let you guys know if any of you guys love gangster movies too.

would you say its better than The Godfather?!? Thats quite a bold statement. But ill definetly check it out.

tough one. i love the godfather series too. but i love the japanese style a bit more.

I enjoy watching japanese yakuza movies.
Do you guys have any suggestions for some ?

I like the 1st godfather, but all the other series were way too long.
I like watching the Casino & The Goodfellas. Those are the only two i can think of right now.

I'm a HUUUGGGE fan of mafia/gangster movies. The Godfather series, Casino, Goodfellas are my top favorite movies, so I would be interested in seeing this movie. Where can you pick it up at?

so these movies came out back in the mid 70's ? so it's an old series ?

my gf actually bought it at fry's electronics for about 60 bucks. and it is an old series but i think its greater then most recent gangster films.

goodfellas was such a bad movie.  Probably a good depiction of the gangster life but ...ugh...

Awsome series!!! Love Yakuza movies!!! you gotta see Yakuza Graveyard , Graveyard of Honor, Tokyo Drifter, Fudoh, Yakuza Demon, Gonin 1 & 2,and the american Yakuza movies, the Yakuza and Black Rain.  If you love Yakuza movies look for a book called "The Yakuza Movie Handbook ( A Guide to Japanese Gangster Films)" by, Mark Schilling ISBN 1880656-76-0 at your local bookstore or at Kinokuniya bookstore.Cool - (suteki)

yakuza demon is good one, another one is "SONATINE" with Takeshi Kitano. Sonatine is a bit slow, but still a good one.

one of the old school flickthat i like is, "The YAKUZA" with Takakura Ken, and Robert Mitchum. Ken is the real deal. he was also on Black Rain.

not really Yakuza movie, but Zatoichi (blind swordsman) is a great cult classic, and one who fights the yakuza, and protects the feeble. you have to see the new Zatoichi movie that was made in 2003 with Takeshi Kitano, but all the old ones are great too.
