im also trying to get my truck ready for paint, so my progress comes by slow since i work on both my rides at the same time...

my other door claddings and rear bumper are with my classmates from autobody, to help with time, and doing it all completely by myself would kill me.

hope you guys dig it...

I would say go with black or white, if not one of those two, maybe silver.

my pref is the black.. or two tone black with gun grey on the bottom.. like the JP LS that used to exist somewhere in forum..

+ black would be easier to match up.. if touch ups were needed later down the road.

touching up/matching, or mixing paint for that matter isnt a problem, i have access to a paint mixing system so i can get ahold of any color i want for hella cheap... but black just looks so gangsta!

Looking good so far. I think it's going to look great when it comes together. Colorwise I'd go with a very dark cherry red.

first of all, let me get it out of the way. Car is coming along awesome!
secondly, can you sell me the passenger side quarter panel cladding? The little one behind the rear door? Body shop that fixed my car did it all ghetto and put a 90-92 one on it and mine is a 94 so its different.

Black and/or silver are fine, but it's been done 1067x before...

When I go that far with a car I always like to do something unique.

If you like dark colors, I'd go NightHawk black (actually a dark midnight blue).

Otherwise, I'd go PPG Rattlesnake (dark root beer brown- KILLER in person)

well puddle lights came in yesterday. heres some install pics. i altered the brackets that came with the puddle lights, drilled some holes in the side skirts and mounted them in. the instructions said to mount them 12" apart but i did mine 17.5" across the whole skirt. mounted them flush so you cant see them from far... but in the process of wiring them up, i guess somewhere the wires crossed and now i have a burnt out integration relay. spend most of the night (til 1145pm) and part of this morning trying to find this relay. couldnt find it so ill have to do so at work tomorrow. but heres some pics...

tell me about it, those exhaust cut outs are huge! but i got it planned out. gonna weld up my own exhaust system. from the cats back, 2 1/4 straight pipes to either an X-pipe or H-pipe, back to either a pair of borla or magnaflow mufflers, single in/dual out. i have no idea what type of tips yet though.... just gotta buy different radius u-pipes and straight pipes and start from there. hopefully sounding something like this guys GS...

as for the panels, they requiered so much time to get them to where they are now, straight as an arrow... the bumpers are easier cuz there are more curves than flat surfaces... ill keep you guys posted for sure...

nothing really new. except that while turning left coming to a sudden stop my tire caught the lip of the fender and pulled it out and damaged that portion of the fender. other than that bumming my trip, im figuring the next set of rims i get, the fronts i can go about 5mm lower. idk yet...

Well, it doesn't look too bad...I've seen far worse and yah, you can come out a little bit more. I think it'll be more noticeable when the car is painted since there will be contrast between the colors as right now the fender and wheel are similar colors.

Testing the trim?

Hi,

I would like to know more about this exhaust sound. What does "L" tuned mean?

Also, with regards to your fabo wheels...what specs are those and what tire sizes?

Looking very nice with that kit.

thanks guys...

well, im officially done with school until next semester. so i got like 3 good months to put in work... you guys can expect some serious progress between now and new years, or for december car show rather....

i modified/rewired my front turn signals to alternate back and forth between the bumper and corner lenses so now i can shave the bumper lenses on my front bumper (body kit)....

a friend that graduated autobody with me is gonna help me do work on my car so i can get things done twice as fast....

+1 i have to agree. if u kept those lights it would've definately been overkill. and my .2 cents ls' and black is just the way to go. good luck with the rest of the work. like others i also can't wait to see the finished product.

the wheels fit perfectly... maxed the camber, and rolled and pulled to the max... as you can see in these pics, the lip of the rim kisses the quarter panel, tire will rub that low, so now i gotta find a different brand tire with no lip protector... 19x9.5 low disk +12, 19x10 super low disk -10

It seems you used the eastwood fender roller. I'm assuming that and a heat gun. Any other tools?

why did you use a skim coat of fiberglass filler and not use straight bondo? i know the fiberglass is stronger but i'm just curious...so i assume you're gonna add the body line to the front fenders as well?

Hey, sorry about that one night at the club... I got a new phone with internet and I was all into it... didn't pay much attention to anything else....

But I used the fiber filler cuz it stronger basically. Bodyfiller cracks too easily, it takes a lot to crack it. bodyfiller tends to run if you apply it too thick... the fronts already have a bodyline, im just trying to match the front bodyline in the rear.

i though the 1st gen LS never had body lines...mine didn't...made it easier to body work because of that...

EDIT:

I stand corrected after looking at my other pic...small body line but its there

and if i'm not mistaken, doesn't fiberglass filler have more flex than bondo?

i tape it up like that to control the overspray. i dont plan on primming the whole car, only the body worked areas. the rest of the car i can use the paint already on the car, as a primer and block that down straight. its a waste of material to primer an area that, well, doesnt need primer. and its more work for the prepper and painter (me) when i start prepping for paint.

and it shouldnt be too much longer, i hope. theres a big car show here in aug that i wanna try to make....
nice...so why did you tape up that much to stop the overspray that much? is that necessary? i mean the whole car eventually has to get primered right? or are you just doing huge spot primers?
i tape it up like that to control the overspray. i dont plan on primming the whole car, only the body worked areas. the rest of the car i can use the paint already on the car, as a primer and block that down straight. its a waste of material to primer an area that, well, doesnt need primer. and its more work for the prepper and painter (me) when i start prepping for paint.

and it shouldnt be too much longer, i hope. theres a big car show here in aug that i wanna try to make....

i dont think i do... i use enough. id rather have used enough material to get the job done, rather than not enough and have to redo/touch up... or in the other sence, if i did a half ass tape job, id have overspray on/in areas i dont want i.e. chrome trim, on my rims, windows, my shoes, lol. and if the over spray was all over the car, its just more work for me when i gotta wet sand... but thanks for all the compliments, maybe all that wil motivate me more now. i really want to get the ball rolling on this.

haha, i think opposite...the less tape the better...sure you don't want your overspray flying but you don't want to use $5 of tape and paper every primer job...it adds up...

Forum image

right above the wheel well there's tons of 2" tape...if looks nice and all but we would have gotten scoldings from everyone if we taped like that...if anything, just back tape the wheel well and run the paper along that...

i would have just wraped the whole car in plastic, cut out the areas with a razor and tape off...that way you cover the whole car and only don't need any paper or 2" tape...

just giving some constructive criticism, don't take it the wrong way...your ls is gonna make martin want to sell his...haha...its gonna be sick dude...can't wait to see that red paint job (stole my idea, j/k)...

The trick is to CUT out notches where the liner anchors are. Basically...think of it like this...

Cut a slot right on both sides of the liner anchors. Pres them flat then roll. So you'll have material to be rolled then a flat spot, then more material to be rolled then another flat spot...then the rest of the material to be rolled.

Trust me on this..i dimpled mine 4 years ago...no one was around to tell me any different. In hindsight, I should have done it the way i described above. Hope that helps...PM if you got questions.
