[request] Vip-style grilles

Howdy, I'm looking for some pics of Vip style grilles, from a head-on perspective.
I figured that a horizontal bar grille would be a nice but easy DIY for my car, I'm looking for ideas as well as sorta studying the construction.
Suggestions are welcome too

hmm lookinng at the shape and the color of your car if you want to pull it all together, you will need more chrome...not just for the grille. My suggestion would be leaving the lower portion alone as is and put some chrome on the upper portion where your mazda emblem is located. That should look nice and clean. To go along with this, you can put chrome molding on the window trim and maybe a chrome licence plate frame for the rear plate.

It's a 1998 Protege (323/Familia). There are clear headlamps and corners for it but unfortunately they are JDM lenses and aiming is opposite, for RHD, so they're not really safe for much night use, they might blind oncoming traffic and not light up the sidewalk.
I agree about the more chrome, I've already got the chrome LED washer nozzles (laaaame) that are gonna get a switch asap (to control all the laaaame) that clean up the hood. I just don't want to go nuts with plastic chrome, I'll have to really think about each area when the time comes. I like the idea of the top part of the grille being chrome, it would be pretty easy to have done.

I have an option for you on the headlights...it's a timely process but with the right stance will look awesome...sand down the inside of the headlamp and then polish it, and install two projectors in each headlight along with "angel eye" rings. It will look tacky on a car with stock heigth, but once lowered with wheels it should look pretty badass.

A neat idea, and it has been done on a 2nd gen Protege, one guy just finished an HID projector retrofit but it is a lot of work and money. Money that could be going in to wheels

don't mess with anything until you have your car sitting on the ground, wheels etc... Hey if all those wagons can make 15x7 etc... look so damn hot I don't see why a slammed protoge couldn't pull it off.

Wheels and suspension are at the top of the to do list, but I'm allowing myself little DIY detail projects
A bit off topic but: 15x7 is too small a diameter for my car, I don't want to have to slam it. Air would be ultimate but I can't have that, the drop I'll be getting is 1.8". I'll need 17s to fill out the wheel wells properly. But I digress

I just find the black plastic bits boring.

trust me, you will want to go much lower than that...the 17's will not look good. I had a MKIII jetta for a few years, similar 'design' for wheel size as the protoge and 16's were more than enough

no..no..no man..18" is the smallest u can go for vipstylin..15-17" are for JDM style(light weight wheels) :o

These are 16" wheels. I just can't go this low (without coil-overs, which don't exist for my car, or air, which is bleedin' expensive). Not to mention I can't afford to sacrifice my bumper while I learn how to park a car with no ground clearance :D

Eurospec, you're right about 16" being usually adequate, but that's not taking into account the massive wheel gap BHA Proteges have

This is a stock height BHA on 16" wheels. As you can see, even a modest 1.8" drop won't do much to the wheel gap.

Availability. Only B+G makes anything lower (2.25") and they are getting a bit tricky to find. I could get them if I really wanted though.

try Corksport in Oregon, they deal wid Mazdas and B+G springs

They were the main supplier of BHA parts but lack of demand has caused them to stop stocking parts. They only have a few, the rest is a pain in the butt to get.

its a custom made bodykit plus the grille of my lancer, hope it helps ;)
