too sporty for the venerable y33 q45?

I've seen a staggered set up of this on a older model benz E class and it looked amazing. A lot of BMW and Audi dudes are sporting these as well.

I love the step lip and retro old school appeal of it, noting is more flattering than  old school style in big diameter format.

but I can't put my finger on this one, you guys think it's too sporty for the venerable almighty y33 q45 ?

Ive seen a few VIP gs300's with similar rims not sure about a q though.Maybe with the right kit, stance, and camber it might look really nice..I dig the rims go for it man

As long as you get fitment and stance right..they will be baller...get it wrong and they will be suxville.

My cousins friend has those wheels on his jetta and it looks damn sharp because he's got perfect fitment .

How much are those going for?

the 20x10.5 is going for about 590 a piece at tirerack.com, it gives off over 3 inch of step lip. I'd have to throw in a 20mm spacer adapter-pcd converter .

I dunno man, I dunno. The step lip is a strong attraction but I'm hesitant about the sporty mesh.

here's an E class with some similar BBS LM's.......but the question still remaiins, can the Q truly pull it off? Will the two oxymoron's work together ?

latest issue of vip style (july 07, page 274)- very quick scan.  not a step lip, but mesh wheels on a y33. :

it'll look great as long as the wheels are aggressive enough.

I have  Work VS wheels that are a similar mesh pattern but different color and w/o step lip.

In person they look fine, but in pictures mixed feelings.  The fitment and stance are not there in these examples, but hope it helps a little in your decision

agreed  i love mesh wheels  but i dont think i could run them on a q45

the two cars posted above don't have a stepped lip and that is why they don't look quite right. If the offsets are right on those wheels Qoozy you will have a sick as ride!

it's not the "mesh" style that is wrong, you can't even see the mesh pattern in the pictures.

it's the black face, fitment and stance that doesn't look right.

I still have not decided.

I see a lot of BBS mesh wheels on ucf10-ucf21-ucf30 cars in VIPcar magazine. It looks good IMO.

I still have a liking for dish "euroline DH" style wheels, and they have to be 20".

the rear will give off a little bit over 3" of step lip, but I want a strong thickness with at least 4". I'm not sure if 3" of step lip will give it that jaw dropping factor.

personally I think this would be an example of "too sporty"  and too much of a miss match.

uummmm dont agree, MEsh wheels are straight up sporty wheels and found on most sport cars. YOu can do it if you want its really not a big deal and maybe you could pull something new off..
 
The Lexus to me does not look as sporty as any of those BMW's. Star wheels are pretty much universal and depending on how the car looks they can be blended either way.

in general, both the "mesh" and "5 spoke star" style works both with sporty or luxury. 

Mesh has been used on old school luxury cars with great success.

5 spoke has been used on old school luxury cars with great suceess.

It's how the mesh or the 5 spoke is designed. Is it a modernized design ? is it a old school retro deisgn ? 

but anyway, I don't think I'll be goin with these Rial's.

I was jsut looking at a set of LMs for my M45 but the 20" one only come in 5x112 bolt patterns.

all these bmw's look great w/ meshies  simply b/c they are a sport oriented car... never mind that most of them come with them stock and bmw is one of the best putting out cars with stock wheels that are hot!!

Mesh + Q45 = Unique, where in the states do you see that?

I have seen a lot lexus on  VIPCAR or wha is VIPSTYLE with BBS. I think thay look great, should look good also on a Y33.

yeah I was gonna grab a set of the Rial 20" daytona race but I don't want to mess with spacer adapters again. 

There's nothing wrong with spacer adapters, but I want to show off all that space my q45 can handle.

i remeber those wheels (RIAL)  they were so popular in thailand about 10 years ago.

if it didn't require spacers, I'd be all over these Rial's.

Im never a fan of Fine spoked and mesh spoke wheels, I like em with a bigger full face. But with the stepped lip I think these would be ok on the right car, with the right color and the right kit, as well as the right finish on the wheels face itself.

Say a shade of dark silver with the face to match?? I think that would look tight

They look great, if they are properly offset with some camber.
