Ordering rims though Japan???

Has anyone ever order there rim straight from Japan and had porblems with US customs when it got here..

My wheels are being held at customs sence monday.. I get a letter today that they need an invoice in which is prob attached to the box. It also ask what is the rims for?? Not imported for resale and stuff like that.

Does anyone here know the process or had this same problem before..

this is just like there teasing me when my wheels are so close to beingin my hands..

ORdering from Japan are a Pain.. but worth it!

edited.. hope this helps anyone ordering rims through a forigen country..

just talked to an US customs Agent.. she was very helpful
any time you send items from a forign country items a subjuct to search.
Invoice or bill of sale must be attached to item.
Certain items like new cloths Car parts wheels are subjuct to duty chrages.. wheels are 2.5% of value and 5.00 surcharge. Toys dont have a duty. IF parts dont cost much they sometimes just let it go if the invocie or bill of sale is on it.. IF it is a gift make sure it states what the value is.

Jdmpalace or myself cant help you........ who ever got you the wheels needs to give you a copy of the invoice / bill of sale. Your wheels are at a warehouse not really at customs for them to give you a copy.

The last time I heard about customs in Hwaii they are WAAAAAAAAY more of a pain then in L.A or San Fran.

Depending how the wheels are shipped to Hawaii thats another way customs will mess with you. If its shipped by Japan Postal by sea or air no problems. You might have saved a buck on the wheels but sometimes saving money with the extra headaches is NOT worth it.

GOOD LUCK hope you get them soon.

The customs in Maui took some time and had some specific steps which I forgot. You have to pay a fee and you had to setup a specific time and appointment. You bring your receipt and they grill you with questions. You pretty much claim it personal and not for resale. After that you hope that the wheels are still in good condition, in my case they only opened a couple of boxes. To me it was worth it... most of the other Japan stuff like Robert said went through to my home with no hassles, probably due to really good packing by the senders.

You need to provide the following:

Air bill.
Original invoice with product discription and price.
Address of company with telephone number where the wheels were manufactured.

If you have no clue, you could also contact a broker they can help you get your items out without you having to go to the customs office and meet with an agent. But you still need to know what shipping company it went through.

WOW I send stuff thru EMS - Air - Sea all the time this is rare. When i ship something thats too big to go thru Japan Postal this is when the customer does have customs to deal with.

Maybe its what was written on the form 1 wheels 88000 yen caught thier eye or what each box was insured for.

they told it was isusred for 1500.00

the wheels were more than that of course the invoce i was sent was for 1500.00. I hope that there wasnt an invoice for the real price of the wheel and there just trying to trick us.

But i was told that if it was for more than 2000.00 i would have to pay a duty on them..

Well ill know more on monday when there open.. these customs guys got some awsome hours.. 8 to 3 pm.. dammt hats not even 8 hours of work.

Anything shipped thru Japan Postal does NOT need an invoice the shipping document is all thats required. I think the Customs folks are just too picky in your area.

whats the big deal these are just rims. Maybe there seeing alot more wheels comming inthemail from Japan within the last 3 months.. SO far just scion owners alone.. about 3 sets came from Japan. Some even had tires on them..

make me think that maybe one of those customs guys are in to VIP Styling and noticed that no one had those wheels in Hawaii and he wants it.

ok guys here is the lowdown on why my wheels are being help up

just talked to an US customs Agent.. she was very helpful

any time you send items from a forign country items a subjuct to search.

Invoice or bill of sale must be attached to item.

Certain items like new cloths, Car parts, wheels are subjuct to duty chrages.. wheels are 2.5% of value and 5.00 surcharge. Toys dont have a duty. IF parts dont cost much they sometimes just let it go if the invocie or bill of sale is on it.. IF it is a gift make sure it states what the value is.

They randomly check items comming in. So if anything just have the sender mark the wheels used.

I dont know what it is for other states but im pretty sure its the same fedral law for everyone.

SO ill have to pay a Duty charge now ..
