Sorry Noob - Stretch tires on 18x8

Hey guys, new to this forum..

I am getting a set of 18x8 +38 offset Works rims for my TSX. Stock size is 17x7 +55 offset. I thought I could clear my rims, but I am dropped til I am tucking a little tires in. I can't afford air runners and no one knows much about VIP on my forums, so what's the best size tires to stretch over some 18x8 and that will prevent rubbing?? Some said 215/40/18. Thanks!

Maybe consider putting some 215/35's. 215/40's didn't really give me a "streched" look on my nsx.

195's

A 195 width tire is pretty hard to find esp in 18" diameter.

Ya, I thought about 195, but couldn't find any. I found some 215, but doesn't seem to make a big difference. Also, I doubt any local shop mount a stretched tire since I've not seen any VIP or VIP styled cars here. I've seen one, but the tires were mounted on so badly..

sell the wheels and get something wider. 8" is too weak to stretch.

There's 205/40's, I believe Nitto makes some.

I found a good deal on the set of 18x8. Wanted 8.5, but not that much of a difference, and I doubt the TSX can run 9.5 in the rear without any fender modification or crazy negative camber

could he stagger the rear with spacers and camber accordingly?

you can run 9.5 rear, even 10...people in this forum love negative camber.

Probably because most, if not all, VIP styled cars have stretched tires, giving the assumption members in the vipstylecars.com forum might know a thing or two about what size tires would stretch over a certain sized rim. Get it?

Bringing back thread to live....1 more thing to ask. 

With stretched tires, is it dangerous to drive around city? Like, would I dent my lip on my rims around potholes, what about going on a ramp? Even when I go sideways, would i scratch my lip since I don't have sidewalls protecting my rims?? Thanks!

when stretching tires.. if i go with a more low profile tire.. does it mess with the speedo as its not same specs as the oem ?.. or it doesnt effect that much?

yes, u need to like, pay attention when you drive.  you wont have to worry tho, you're barely running a stretch at all. 


and as for messing up your speedo. no. unless your runnin 22's, then yes.

Thanks alot man. I guess running 205 on a 8" wheel will be fine then. But, I can't drive hard, like..turn hard anymore right? Since I have less sidewalls that I suppose to have

Yes you can. Go ask the same question on a drift forum. Alot of them use stretched tyres on the track.
 
Most of us here dont drive like boy-racers anymore, but we dont act like we are driving a car made of glass either.

use the 215 35 18s.. 40s is to tall.. 
 
just roll your fender lip also..

no  prob. you can def still drive hard, like Dominik said many drift cars are running stretch.
