Some quick night shots of my Y33 with my new lense>>>>>

Just got a new lense for my camera..I got the: Nikon 55-200 mm F/4 5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens w/ Vibration Reduction. Thought I would test it out and see how it worked:

I don't have my camera set in VIVID for sharp pictures at this minute..like I said it was a
quick photo shoot...testing out the VR..These shots were all handheld and very little
light source..So I think that it did exactly what it was supposed to do...IF I used a tripod and
lengthen the shutter speed set the aperture to 3.5 with a 10 second exposure and set the picture
to VIVID it would really make a big difference in the overall quality of the photo. Plus soccer season is starting and I will need VR lens while zooming in at 200..

with out VR off

As you can see there is a big difference with VR..The VR tech makes it like 4 stops faster than normal shutter speeds. IF normally shooting night shots I would use my wide angle lens and not this lens..I was just testing it out after I purchased it..Say an area with a little light on the way home and said lets see if this really works..

that whole IS bandwagon isnt needed, some people need it becuase they cant hold their hand straight, but canon has a nifty f/4 and f/2.8 IS
just showing that you can do action shots without stabilization

how much did that lens run if you dont mind me asking?

The lense was $249..Pretty cheap compared to the higher end lenses that nikon offers..but it was within in the price that I wanted to spend for another lense at this time. Soccer is starting and I want to be able to campture so further shots than before.

I am still a novice in photography, I have an entry level DSLR and it seems to get the job done for what I am doing.

As I progress so will my equipment.

Zion, definately get a tripod, or remember to bring it. I forgot mine a few times when I thought it was in my trunk..haha. Shows me for not checking first. The lens Yokota is talking about it great. I think for your budget you did okay. I think for your daytime action shots on the fly it'll work with much more favorable results.

Buy the best you can the first time

believe me, its worth it. Save your cash, buy the best you can get
Eventually you will see some pictures with it, or use someone elses lens, and be like, man, why the heck did i buy this thing?
Thats what happened to me.
I spend 250 on a lens, sold it for 150, then spent 560 on another one to replace it

As you can see there is a big difference with VR..The VR tech makes it like 4 stops faster than normal shutter speeds. IF normally shooting night shots I would use my wide angle lens and not this lens..I was just testing it out after I purchased it..Say an area with a little light on the way home and said lets see if this really works..

shooting your car at night, shouldnt require vr unless you are outside a carnival, parked illegally. looks like you had setup time, and thus should have used a tripod for best results, allowing you to control shutter speed without shake.

viplife..
Like I said I was just testing out the lens..YEah this lense is really not intended for night shots more for daylight..After more testing I am finding that the center is sharper than the edges and focusing is pretty darn slow. This might be to slow for outdoor action shots. I may just take it back and try out another lens but not really sure what to get.. I would like the 18/200 but that is about $800...

I have lots to learn man..
