Wood Grain Questions

While searching around I came across this company in Austria that will basically paint a wood grain onto any piece. I was reading over the method and they basically spray it with a base coat and then apply some kind of gel to give it the wood grain effect. Does anyone know anything about this gel and where I could get it? I think this will be a lot nicer than buying the vinyl wood grain kit for my car and probably cheaper too if I can find the gel and do it myself. It will also allow me to do custom parts that aren't included in the vinyl kits. Any information on this process would be fantastic.

I'm sure there is a couple places in SoCal that do it. Search for water transfer printing. It looks like that all I would really need is the film and the chemical and the rest is taken care of. I have paint facilities w/ all tools and a large garage for space. I have a tank to use for dunking as well. If I could get my hands on the films and the chemical and perfect the technique I wouldn't mind doing it for you guys on VSC.

I've figured out a method to achieve the same look. Here are my test panels I did today. Will have pics of my interior hopefully in a week.

Poor photo quality is due to my Palm Treo camera. The actually quality is great. I've only used 1 coat of clear coat for these and they shine like a sumbitch!

That looks more like brown leather to me but I kinda like that.

I just clicked on that link, damn theres gotta be someone in the states that can do this. I so want the Cherry wood look!

The pictures really don't do it any justice at all.

If you can do the Yellow infiniti wood color, Id send you a few things to do for me if the price is reasonable :biggthumpup:

Looks good antbo. I'm really happy with the outcome I got. I wish I had a good camera for some better shots.

Theres one in Pheonix I also posted but its no longer in my favorites....
 
Side note..I have done alot of airbrush painting in the past..use to paint vehicle graphics..anyways..I use to paint woodgrain patterns with my airbrush...I have been working on my interior plastic and will post some teasers for you folks in either the infiiti section or interior...dont want to high jack this dudes thread if you know what I mean.

looks grrrrreeaat! what was your process?

The first coat is a layer of reddish/brown primer. The second coat was a brushed of layer of leather brown paint. I then stabbed the paint with the brush for a different effect. After that you cover it with saran wrap and rub a roller over it for a few seconds then pull it off. Let it dry then clear coat it. It took me a few sample tries before I figured out the order of steps and the technique to get this particular look.

Cool BEans..sounds like what I did but I uesd a plastic grocery bag and applied the paint in streaking swirl motion..then when back again for more depth...after that I air brushed in burls and more destict wood patterns....check out my thread...

The match is damn near perfect. I have not been able to clear the rest of my parts because of the damn monsoon rains has me on hold. once I get some sun project should be complete.....
