sorry. odd car for vip wheels

i know theres a wheel fitment thread, but i have an 89 honda prelude i wanna put 17X8.5 +25(?) with a 215/40/17 tire. will this give me any problems? i really need a wheel guru. the stock offset is like +43 i think. i want my wheels just past flush of the fender, just like the first car in the wheel fitment sticky. thanks!

Maybe strut clearance?

There's a DA Integra with 8" +0 offset in the other thread, so I think you're safe as far as fenders go,

should work fine..

DA integra is night and day different suspension setup. But that offset is feasable. Id assume you could go even lower offset or more width in rear with some more negative camber.

wow i didnt realize it was that old of a prelude..

i think u need to post pictures of the car in the lowered stance
with the stock wheels on or something so everyone can have a
reference... naming a car model and year and asking for offset help
doesn't give people much to work with. also, the lower u go, the
more clearance for offset you'll have, and camber also messes with it.
a 8.5 is pretty damn wide for the front.. in the rear it might work with
some work on most hondas.

Not only a Prelude. A 3G Prelude!
I'm actually going Lux, not VIP
Drop it 2.5 inches, paint deep blue. Yes I know the tires in front are the wrong size.

Should I go +25 or +20???

And how hard is it to install those billet bar type grills?

You should go home.

Don't post up pics of knock off wheels and night pictures of headlights asking generic offset questions... noobs...

Start at honda tech or something for offsets that work and then come back here for brand names and or fitment tweaking... but I don't think that VSC.com is here as a starting ground for your fitment or even your knowledge of VIP style... bleh bad morning in Texas haha

Just out of curiosity, you being serious dude?

Initially i was iffy about even posting questions about my acura tl on these forums. Even with a totally fabricated high compression built motor, 3500 dollar wheels, and a high dollar aero kit. I cant even imagine what these dudes are gonna say.. Just warning you..

Shrugs.. to each their own.

Are you kidding me? are you guys really THAT fucking stuck up? WOW. Name brand loyalty dickheads at their finest. so i cant afford Work meister s1's or fucking ssr p1's(?). theres more than one type of VIP. theres bizouku (sp?) mild, wild, theres lux, and the traditional type vip. and im DEAD serious. I dont see why this hurts you so much. I've been on hondatuning and preludepower and all those guys do is bitch about how you shouldnt put wide wheels or low offsets on my car, so i get no answer. i figure some guys on a VIP forum who know about this shit would help me out cuz im doing something different, if you dont like it then keep it to yourself. go and hang out with all your other conformed single minded buddies. all i wanted to know was if they could fit, can i go lower offset, and if anyone thought my idea was any good. what about the first guy who did mini trucking? im sure he got this shit too but look at how many people do that now. FUCK man.

THIS is Lux \/\/\/ a type of vip style in japan. You take a spocom car and Put in vip influences.

Most of the people on here have cars that were at least 30k+

How you gonna post a picture of a 100 thousand dollar severely modified rx7 and even compare it to a 89 prelude?

Im sure everyone on here knows the different styles. SuperStreet and the riceboy media made all the trendy queers aware of that when they bastardized the style with there "coverage" and "explination".

just my .02

I honestly didnt think you were serious when you showed a 250 dollar nearly 2 decade old car and called rota wheels "bad boys". My fault.. Best of luck

hmmm, I have never been a fan of bashing anyone around here, but common since would tell you that ROTA wheels you can get off the internet for $599 with tires, and running some autozone bulbs in your lights is not even remotely part of this lifestyle. You have opened a whole can of worms now. I once was in your place, and I too have been a target of bashing, but at least I sat down, took my time to understand the scene. Now that you have felt it necessary to try and defend yourself by throwing up pictures from the internet (BTW that is the LOOKING RX7, WAY OUTTA YOUR RANGE SON). Your best bet would be to just CHILL OUT before you get yourself banned, and accept the fact the the OGs here know there stuff, and as long as you are not a CHILD, or a pain in the a$$ about it, most will be willing to help out with your questions. Just don't act as if you know everything about VIP/EXE/LUX style. Hell, until ModifiedMag ran that LOOKING RX7, most people had never heard of the term LUX before. Understanding the VIP scene also means understanding that this is not a cheap hobby (cars in general) and that the VIP culture is very harsh to outsiders that want to have "VIP Inspired" cars on a McD's paycheck using none traditional (aka. cheap ass knock offs) parts. And trust me, If you were banking in the stock market, you wouldn't be driving a 1989 Honda Prelude, DUH! Just sit back down, and try starting over, before you get schooled, because trust me, the shark tank around here is deep and full of feeders waiting for a noob to chomp. On that note, enjoy your stay.

so what its outta my range, its something to shoot for though. and what gets me the most is how some integra with sport max wheels gets compliments! isnt that the same concept as what im doing? i think those wheels are "bad" because theyre the knockoff of the work meister s1's. i cant afford them so this is the close second. im not made of money. i know that throwing big low offset wheels with a bodykit and slamming your car or adding an adjustable air kit does not make you vip, but this is inspiration. im not trying to be super catagorized, just come as close as my 19yr old laundrymat working salary will let me. Even if i won the lottery id still be driving my lude, its a classic cult car. yeah id buy something else, but itd prolly be an nsx or restore an 84 porsche 944. people on here consider boxes and accords vip so whatever.

see, I was trying to give you advise, and here you are bantering me. Dude, instead of blowing $$ on knock-offs, save up a little longer and get the real deal. As far as I know, no one here has ever been bashed for running stock until the parts (genuine parts) were on the car. I tried to help, said my part, now your on your own. Good luck with that...

Hey I had an 89 prelude before
From what I remember, i put on 15x6 +35mm offset rims on it and at stock height it was tsuraichi. however, by stock height, i mean like 3-4" of wheel gap. It looked like a 4x4 and was horendous
I would recommend to lower the car first before you think about what wheel and size you want because it would be totally different compared to stock height
Also because it is a prelude, I would recommend to get a camber kit and sporty wheels

I would highly recommend a site called www.preludepower.com
they have a 3rd gen specific section with a lot of helpful information specific to your car
you can get more helpful info on what size wheels would work and what not

OK guys...I think he gets the point.

LuxLude: I can understand where you're wanting to go with the car and can sympathize with you not being able to afford quality rims on a young salary. However, youve entered into another segment of the automotive scene that insists on quality parts.

Even if you have to buy one rim at a time, you'll thank yourself for it.

A lot of people will come off harsh because they/we dont want VIP to be defined by knock off parts and pep-boys specials.

Do yourself a favor and read thru the site to understand what we're trying to do and portray.

you can get the real deal of those wheels used for like 1500 jibbs used on ebay all day anyhow..

Id say 17x8.5 +32mm front

17x9 +25mm rear

Any more your pushing it without significant other costly modifications

Keep in mind this may look out of place also without the car lowered, old paint, and no aero kit.

Chevys ridin high type shit IMO.

THANK YOU!!! it does make sense because im going to eventually buy better quality rims. but i dont want to be running around on 13's untill i can afford it. my uncle is vp florida for discount tire and i can get these wheels uber cheap, so its not much of a waste. and id rather buy the knock offs and find out they dont fit rather than finally getting the nice wheels and they dont.

You might like it for now, but you'll grow out of it. Take it from us old folks, we all been through it in one form or another.

So, everyone on this board has told you dont go for the knockoffs, save and you will be happier, you can either take that advice or leave it. if you buy the knockoffs first and they break like the pic above... you will have waisted money. Even if you buy the rotas and they last till you get nicer wheels, you will have wasted money. Take it from someone probably around your age, save up, you will be happier in the end.

Thank you for keeping the language civil.

i didnt know that rotas were that bad a wheel company. BUT i feel like a hypocrite saving to buy brand name, cuz i make fun of people who waste 300 on sunglasses and 2k on a dress or 3100 on a suit. but then again i dont want my stuff braking like that and i wouldnt buy knockoff coils, aero or exhaust. i appreciate how now people are being more suggestive instead of abraisve. but im not getting rid of my car, this is my second one. ive driven m3's, 05 si's, got to take my ex's porsche out, and other hondas and stuff, but i like this car, and id rather stay with my car instead of getting what everyone else has. it IS getting lowered and aero (kaminari not extreme dimensions or anything), and im sure once everything gets together itll get respect. thanks.

What does this have to do with Vipstyling?
Even if you throw on your Knock-off wheels your not gonna look like anything close to Vip.
Just an ordinary Honda with wheels & fitment . . .

OR you should take 10 min learn how offsets work, do the math and makes some measurments on your own car. But I forgot everyone wants "the look" without putting any work into it. You wouldn't buy the real ones even if you knew for sure they fit. Fucking '89 prelude jesus, what the hell has happened to this website, someone ban this guy or at least delete the pics, my eyes are puking.

You car will never be vip/lux (whatever the fuck that is) or anything close to it... stop dreaming. You think your going to make a '89 prelude something people will look at but you can't even afford to buy some decent quality wheels. give me a break.

You can probably do this with your prelude:

- Japanese Front end with the regular headlights
Forum image

-Red and white SI taillights

-Admiration Honda Inspire aero Modified to fit your car
Forum image

-Radius fenders with added flares so you can fit bigger and wider wheels with a lower offset.

-Air/Hydraulics

It is possible to vipstyle or lux your ride, but you got to put a lot more effort into the car since it is not a vip platform.

That doesn't look half bad. If it's done right, it'll look alot better than people's current thoughts of your car. But in order for it to look right, its going to take lots of $$$ (money). So, do it right the first time if you do do it.

OG Rex Nguyen had a widebody RHD prelude that was sick back in the day. it was red then went to chamelion. i believe he still has it but i dont know where he works anymore. i bought whole load of stuff from him and Nate Pagtama at Sprewell Racing in San Gabriel. my buddy actually has his old 19/18 staggered fitment custom offset racinghart m5's on his widebody integ.

if youre still on here man hit me up and i might be able to get you in contact with him, he should know the exact fitment for your ride, he was a wheel manager/guru.

here's some inspiration to Lux, although i will never picture these cars, especially this car, next to a vip car
this 'Lux style' doesn't need luxury wheels

If I hear one more person complain about how expensive genuine wheels are, I'm going to throw something through the screen.

If you have no money, make up for it with patience and hard work.

i cant believe a group of car enthusiasts are so stuck up that they won't help someone just because of the car they drive. this vip thing is losing its appeal (not the cars but the attitudes). so what if somebody cant afford or maybe doesn't even want a "vip platform". at least he/she has chosen a clean style that we all love. half the threads on this forum are "is this vip enough" questions (i even caught myself doin it), so what makes some think they are great trend setters. cause they can afford what someone or a brand name told them what was cool? real fly...

as far as the ? goes you probably would have more luck on a prelude specific forum. just mention that you want flush fitment. i think an old school step lip mesh look on coilovers would be hot. but i have a thing about the quality/price of wheels being appropriate to the car. the rims should never cost more than the car imo. clean up the body by shaving/color matching, find a clean kit, get the stance/fit right, and ride. the pics pitchedup posted look clean. i would go black of course.

style looks good even if you dont spend a grip.

Sure, ignore all the helpful comments.

Just remember this is Vip Style Cars.com not "pick some rims out for me.com" aight? Suggestions are going to be related, and if a thread is like "What about these Konigs?" or whatever, corrections are gonna be made y'know? No offense meant, it's just what it is.

I think if you wanted to style your car to look VIP then get some wheels that look like VIP wheels not something that looks like a race wheel. Its hard to take anyone Serious if u post up something like that. Dont take peoples reactions to the heart do what you like and prove people wrong with all there statments and make that thing look sick. Like everyone said its not going to be VIP but do what you like its your car and no one can fix it up for u unless they payin =). Lets stick with VIP styled wheels and kits dont make a Mugen kit VIP because it really isnt. Have fun with ur project and i hope all this negative brings u back and maybe slap everyone in the face. If not then good luck on Honda Tech ;)

I cant believe OJ did it, the reds won the 1990 world series, the berlin wall came down, and chris farley died. All of which happened in a comparable era of this thread. Its been like over a month, and its not even a topic worth discussing.

He asked about wheels on his car. some gave the suggestions, some told him a 1973 faded and rusted out prelude was not a vip car, some told him rota wheels bling.

There is nothing more to say, suggest, or add to it. Adding anything negative or argumentive to this thread anymore is like getting a prostrate exam from freddy kruger. Its just not going to have a good outcome as far as im concerned.
