update on my project ucf 20

if u guys dont know..i'm from oahu hawaii and jus recently purchased a 1998 lexus ls400..just started on my suspension about a week ago..went universal air..jus bought the bags and the brackets from them..everything else i pieced together myself from my own switches, smc valves, dakota digital guages, 1/4" line, my own fittings, kyb struts, 2 2 gallon tanks in my spare tire compartment, and a viair 480 compressor..here are the pics i have now..so far no complaints about universal air..zack from universal  air has been great help answering all my questions and made things as easy as possible for me..

kyb strut..all i needed to do was bang off the spring perch and the bumpstop mount..then slide the bag and brackets right over..all bolt on..

Just messing with you. Looking good so far

Coming along.  Very similar set-up to what we did on Aaron's car.  I had tons of fun with his perches..haha.  I like your switch/guage set-up.  Great spot to use, makes it look almost stock.

I like it. I like that you used your own switches. The one thing I never really cared about on the UA kit was the switch box.

i love those install pics man, btw i am desprately wanting to do something like that for my 1991 camry, could I go about it in the same fashion you did?  Get some new kyb's and modify the strut and get a bag small enough in diameter to fit in replacement of the spring?

i like that idea because you dont have to order a certain air strut...you can basically make one!

You could, but keep in mind most aftermarket struts are not designed for an airbag and its travel. Most shocks are designed for a stock to 1.5" drop spring.

the rears i had to cut off the stock bumpstop mount on the top bracket..if i didnt cut it, the rears wouldnt get as low..it would  be a little higher than the fronts..

bags are universal air...i'm not sure on the diameter..the fronts clear by a mile and the rear clears by an inch in the rear..i'm surprised that these bags hardly balloon out when dumped..no rubbing issues at all

the brackets are all bolt on..and actually just sits there with the weight of the car..nothing bad or unsave about it because it doesnt move side to side because the brackets fit snuggly on the shock..the weight of the car keeps it from moving up and down..this to me is the only problem w/ these bags and this setup..if u drive with more pressure say in the rear right and less on the rear left, the left will clank a little over hard bumps..need to even it out for a nice ride..

How is the ride quality, would you say its maybe alittle less or equal to stock?

i cant believe the guys on toyotanation all this time talked me out of something like this...they say that cause they dont make an application specific for my camry, just get intrax and kyb and leave it that, and when i asked them how much lower I could go with air, they told me not that much lower.  They are very conservative over there, it is a good forum nevertheless....but I like this one better:smiley:

no way can any airbag suspension be as good as a lexus stock ride..but i think it rides preeetty good...not slushy..stiff yet not too bouncy..depends on what psi u ride it at..if rode at 150 psi all around the ride would be crap..i ride at 120 on the front and 60-70 psi on the rears..at this height, the tires are right at the fender all around

you should try airrunner then. you tell me how that rides compared to stock. its SO similar

i think this is the difference between air runner and UAS.

airrunner was engineered to be a certain way from the ground up, with their own stuts built in.

unlike UAS, which uses the disappointing stock struts.

Which is why you utilize coilovers with them.

I don't see why you can't use after market struts with the UAS bags. Seem's like you can use tokico, koni, bilstein, etc. I guess some people are just too lazy to use them or don't wanna spend the $$$ for them.

That wasn't my point really.  A lot of guys don't have the scrillah right away for air but want to slam it down appropriately, in the time being, and often opt for coilovers.  Then later on to cut the costs of buying a full system they can use the coilovers with the UAS bags and then a control system and have it come out to about the same price (or less sometimes) than buying say AirRunner.  If the coilovers have adjustable damping then they can run them full soft and still not have that harsh a ride.  To me it's all about the fitment and stance.  Most times a more harsh ride also equals better handling and predictability.   So really it's a personal choice.  AirRunner is nice (don't get me wrong), but often seems overpriced for what it is when other options cost far less and can go lower.

i dunno if u get lower..but where i'm at is fine..after rims and kit, if i feel the kit isnt low enough and if i feel the car would look nicer with the tucked rims, i can modify my suspension easily to get it lower..nice car u got though
