97-98Qs Vs. 99-01Qs

So I was riding in my friends 97 Q45 yesterday and I started to noticed all the little interior details that his had that mine didn't, which made me wonder why my newer version Q wouldn't have that!
 
For example:
His had a full wood center console
the Sunroof was color matched on the outside <---Didn't really like that look
Inside, the sunroof had a neat carpet sunroof that retracted instead of having to pull the cover back and forth
etc........
I guess Infiniti/Nissian got lazy or cheap and decied to cut these features out of the newer models, oh well!

One beacuse I didn't really know much about VIP at the time and just wanted a newer VIP platform to build. I never really saw any Qs on the road 99 and up. I liked the black housing and at the time I liked the trunk becasuse it was different. Also I wanted the stock HIDs!

The sun roof on your car is actually a "moonroof", and a infiniti had sun roofs back in the day.  Now they all have moonroofs.  My old J30 was the same way.  And as for the wood dash you can get that from the dealer bro.  It was an option in your car.  I see them on ebay from time to time.  And the AC vent from the 97-98 will fit on your car.

Yep you got a moonroof. I noticed the same thing back in the day with my 929. My buddy had one to but mine was  a 93 and came with the moonroof well his came with a sunroof. Same thing with infiniti. I think what it was people wanted both of best worlds and so they gave it them. The Center console I have never seen a OEM wood bezel for your years. When I got mine I called up to the dealership and was told it was not an option..SO Germanfolks us statement that it was an option is new to me..not even the aniversary editions came with it.
 
When I bought my car I had the choice of a 3 of them. One 97-99-01..I got a 97 becuase a few things. IT will be worth more than any other years inbetween besides a 2001 because it was 97 when they changed. I did liked that the 97 had the center console wood, I like the clear lenses on the headlights better..than the fogy looking headlight in the 99-01. and Sorry Pancakes please dont take this the wrong way...but I cant stand the trunk on the 99-01.
 
Hey mang if you want your center console on  ac vent custom painted..Now would be a good time as your car is beeing worked on...If you want I can do it or send it to be water transfer printed...

I have a 2001 touring model and mine has a sunroof (not even tinted, might tint it) and a pull back cover. Mine also has factory navigation/GPS, side curtain airbags, active head restraints, OEM xenon headlights(look like jewels, not foggy at all), and rear sunshade. The 97-98's trunk does look nice with the full tail lights (more Japanese style), but to me the 99-01 look more german with just the reverse lights on the trunk (ex: BMW, Mercedes, and Audi all sport this style).:biggthumpup: As far as the full wood console, I don't have that either. The wood only covers the shifter and cup holder section, after seeing your custom console Zion I have been searching for a molded wood dashkit that would actually look stock and color match, other peel and stick dash kits leave some space uncovered making it look cheap. Plus I have the navigation that makes it harder to find and the lighter colored wood too.:sad:

your best bet is to get it water printed. THey can color match any wood grain pattern..If you dont have links I can give you some that do it. You wont find a molded dash kit for your car,, I have been lookin allready for 2 years..

because 97-98 i think was exactly like the JDM ones except for RHD of course. then in 99-01 they made it all different for USDM. i dont know just my theory

Man sounds like you got the best model!!! as far as features! I seen the USDM ones on ebay w/ the NAVI (LUCKY!) Also my headlights are non-foggy as well and I like how they are different from your typical crystal clear that everybody goes with along with the trunk! But I am considering doing a 97-98 rear trunk conversion w/ LEDs in the future.....

Would be nice but I don't have the time to go by the shop and pull out a console and have it sent
out! Maybe in the future?.....

My friend's 97 came stock w/ the wood console and he has the non-touring model!
Also the dealer sounds expensive even though I do got a hook up on parts!

HHHmmm both your lights are crystal, that good to hear cause I do like the ones like you have but in chrome/ clear. The cars that I saw here local well  there lights were foggy but tucson is hot and dry..if cars sit in the sun all day most headlights start to change in color.

I think the crystal clear headlight USDM ones don't have OEM Xenon, not too sure on the JDM versions. All the JDM headlights I see don't have any ballast attached, so maybe no Xenon either. I think Benji has some crystal clear JDM ones on his ride...maybe he'll chime in. Yes mine comes stock with the wood steering wheel, doesn't your Pancakes (I thought you had a touring model too)?

I have a touring model and mine did not come stock. I had to buy a wood steering wheel. THe only model I know that came with stock wood and navi was the Touring Aniversary edition..is that what you have? 
 
 As far as the lights go..does not matter if its stock HID or non Stock HID.. I allready have an HID kit..But I am thinking or doing a retrofit in my headlights. I got me some F50 projectors comming in here soon. Hopefully they will fit. woo woo

I agree with pancakes. I was jealous. That woodgrain on the black with the silver exterior was on point. Me and pancakes work in a humid area and it sucks not having that moonroof painted or having to buy the tint for it. Infinity put their money in the g's and fx's i guess. :shrug:

No mine didn't come w/ the woodgrain steering wheel nor did it come w/ heated seats or a 6 disc changer! But who cares I'm completly satisfied w/ my purchase and have no regrets just thought it was funny how there were stuff in the older models that I wish they kept in the newer models.

I've had a 97 and currently own a 98. I used to like the 99 and up trunks better but the 97-8s have grown on me.  I'm also thinking about an led retrofit for mine.  My first q had heated seats.  this one doesn't.....the only thing that really sucks about the 97-98s is you don't get the beautiful clock in the center console.  That's the only real detail that I'd pick on the 99+

yup but you can by a 99-01 center console and retrofit it and either have the bezel sent out to have it colormatched or paint it yourself. It is not that hard  to do trust me!

just for the record did yours  come stock with the wood wheel or was it an upgrade like mine?

maybe the actual 97 came with factory wood steering wheel + heated seats.

some usdm 1997's are actually 1996. Keep in mind JDM cima's started in 1996.

I just have the last year of the y33 bodystyle, it just a touring model. But it seems to have everything that the Anniversary Edition has except the Anniversary Edition badging and maybe the OEM spoiler. As for heated seats, it says hot here in Florida so no need for heated seats. It doesn't get cold here until February, warm Christmas's suck.

HUMID...hahaha, I have relative in San Diego. Last time I visited I fell in love with the weather there. Afternoons were sunny but cool-warm, you don't even need to run the a/c in the house and nights were like 60-65 degree. Here in Florida (Sunshine State) we have 90+ degrees heat add humidity and the heat index reaches 100+, it like a damn sauna here. It's really in miserable here, you break a sweat just walking to your mailbox. Out were Zion is it's just plain hot like an oven, soon as you sweat, it evaporates. My momz and popz lives in Vegas so it's pretty much the same there.

Yea, I have no idea what C4 is talkin aboot! We have some of the best weather here in SD!!! Hasn't rained here in almost a year and everyday has been pretty much nothing but sun! It has been hotter than normal lately (95-100 in the day and about 70 at night). But we have NO right to complain cause I've been to humid places like Louisana, Texas, Arizona, Vegas so I know how lucky we are that it doesn't get even close to that humidity.......

*factory HIDs (level adjustable as well)
*rear sunshade
*analog clock (HUGE reason for me)
*painted side trim
*I like the chrome strip above the rear tails 
*I personally think the 99-01 looks a bit classier (I have an I30 and would hate for people to get them confused)
*rear adjustable headrests

thing about a factory navi that sucks is that its programmed for 7 years ago and it wont show alot of the new stuff

overall I guess I could have bought a 97-98 made it look pimper for the extra money i saved

The rear headrest adjust? Mine do up and down, but are talking about them tilting forward too? If so I have to check mine.

Yeah Factory Navi is okay, I upgraded my disk to 2004 (car is a 2001). I think the last CD map was 2005, then Infiniti decided to go with DVD mapping. CD mapping is limited to certain states and does not cover the entire US, where DVD covers the entire US. Your right though, here in Jacksonville, FL it is blowing up!! New roads are everywhere and even my neighborhood does not show up on the map. But I still think it's a cool feature and I love it when the girl talks to me to tell me where to go..."In about a quarter mile left turn...you have arrived at you destination on the right...." So sexy hahaha :biggthumpup:

'99-'01 are definatly better.

Having owned both '97 and '99  i like the '99 a lot better.

I think the things that frustrate me the most is the location of the cruise control swith on the '97 is a pain in the ass to reach. While on the '99 it's on the wheel.

Also, the sunroof on the '97 sucks.. I like glass. 

Headlights are better on '99 + 

Climate control is better on '99 +

no gay woodgrain on it either...

Good point on the factory navi carnal_C30 it is a bit old

Mine is a 12/96 It was exactly 10years old when I bought it

i had owned a 2000 q45 for 2 days, then i took it back to the dealer cuz i couldnt afford it... but i liked the clock on the dash and the sunshade in the rear, also the HID's came stock, but as for my year,the trunk is way nicer and thats how the JDM ones come as well, interior wise i think the 99-01 is nicer though

Whats all the special extras that come in the regular 98 q45 vs the 98 q45t? I tried looking around and didnt notice much other then the badge and trunk wing and rims.

the t's usually come with front and rear stablaizer bars , heated seats, and damping control..and blue book is a little higher..other than that I cant see any other differecne.

When did they first add navigation? Wasn't it in '99? I've been looking around for a Y33 with navigation and it's near impossible to find.

unlike the lexus 95-97 and 98-2000 LS400 major change ups  (4 speed to 5 speed trans, more advanced engine, etc) , the y33 97-2001 didn't really have any significant changes. The engine and drive-train all remain the same throughout 97-01.

All nissan really did was change minor cosmetic accessories. Personally I like the 97-98 tail lamps and the non glass sunroof. I've had the glass sunroof on my other car's and the non glass pop up is much better IMO.

why dont u like your sunroof??? I tinted mine 5% and i just leave it open....not too bright

I like non glass because u can tilt it up at a slant. This is nice because u get very little wind noise, and it looks nice from the outside with a slant sunroof.

your non-touring came with factory HIDs?  chrome housing lights or black?  The only 99+ parts I wish I had are factory HIDs and the analog clock.  I don't like the newer trunk

mine tilts up...thats how i usually leave it

Hey i just picked up a 2000 Q45 Anniversary Edition. 
 
*I have stock HIDs, with a level control, I guess you can adjust the aim of the headlights from the cabin
*Disc changer, although i need a magazine since the previous owner didnt include it.
*Heated Seats
*Factory Wood Grain Wheel
And i guess all the standard stuff. I like the newer trunks, to me they look more clean, newer (Reminds me of the M45)
 
One question i have is i want more wood on the dash, is there a kit to cover the climate control/audio system? Ive seen some on e-bay but dont know if that will match the OE woodgrain
