Falken FK452's have you had problems?

This topic was somwhat discussed in another thread, I thought it warranted it's own thread. I currently have Falken FK452's on my y33. One rear tire already has separated inside the sidewall and it has been replaced. Now my other rear tire outer sidewall looks like it has some bumps developing (like the belt is starting to separate like the last one, inside had long bubbles on sidewall). Recently it seems this issue seems to be popping up on the forums numerous times, specifically the Falken FK452 tire. I have a feeling it may be the tires. If you have had the same problem please chime in.

If you have different tires, please provide the Manufacturer and Tire Name and tell your experiences (good/bad) with those tires.

the stretch on my rear tire 255 35 20 on 20x9.5 is getting un-even.

I had to change out my front fk452 because they were freaking way toooooo LOUD. It may have also had conicity issues because it pulled really hard to left, swapped the wheels and pulled to right.

Damicci, these were FK452's too?

Qoozy, my fronts are getting loud inside car too, especially during stopping. Camber is non-adjustable for now, but toe is right on.

Yes they are FK452. I bought a full set. The rears seem fine but the Driver side front went out first and now The car is getting a weird vibration, I haven't driven for the past 2 1/2 weeks since I was in Japan. I try to check the wheel tonight on the front passenger side.

Okay checked today and my passengers need to be replaced also.

Is there something we can do with Falken to get these warrantied or get a refund. I shouldn't have to buy 6 tires for a 4 wheeled vehicle.

Andit's obvious there is an issue with these tires.

i had a fk452 which had like bubbles all along the sidewall.
it was really messed up, when the shop dismounted the tire,
there was like an AIR SEEM all the way around the inside of the side wall..
usually if u hit a pothole or something, it would only be in 1 spot.
not completely all around the sidewall..

they replaced the tire under warranty, but we're waiting on falken to
see how much of that tire's value will i be given credit back for.

but my other tires are fine, so are 2 of my friends. they are
on 452's as well, and the tire life seems to be pretty decent.

Can you guys post what the load rating is on the tires you are running.........and the one your cars calls for?:thelaw:

My 94'Q45 calls for 95 load rating , Im running 92 in the front, 95 in the rear.

My first set of tires were Falken ZE 512 (92 load rating), never had a problem with them.
Second set were nittos (92 load rating), front separeted about 14 months later.
Third set Falken ZE 512 (92 load rating) only had them about 3 weeks, and hopefuly will last as much as my first set.

Never had a problem with my rear tires......which have always been the correct load rating .

Maybe load rating has something to do with your problems?

You talking Load/Speed? or Load weight? THe spec chart has 2 sets of loaded numbers.
The Numbers closest to what your descrbing are Load/Speed and for 225/35/ 19 its 88Y
Which I was running in the front. Seems pretty low for Tire design for luxury vehicles.

Load as in weight capacity.

You are running 88Y which can hold 1235 lbs. compare that to a 95 that we should be running.

95 =1521 lbs.

I'm sure some of you saw my sidewall bump thread, but yea, I've had 3 front 452's with inner sidewalls bubble up and replaced. I want to blame the tire mounter for being inexperienced for damaging the sidewall while trying to fight the tire's sidewall to fit over the lip, but not sure if its him, or my driving, or from reading this thread, maybe the actual tire design itself. I can say they are much quieter than ST115's. Now after hearing that other people are having similar sidewall bubble issues, I would like to fine another tire that is good for stretching and quiet without the liklihood of failing early. I'm thinking about going back to ST115's since 235/35/19's and 245/35/19's are still available at tires.com and they never bubbled up on me, though my previous ST115's were mounted by an experienced tire mounter. They also have a higher treadwear rating which may help out for my added camber. Now when I think about it, any of you want to buy my 452's?

Ive had problems with my 452s as well.....my steering wheel was steadily shaking worse and worse, so bad that my arm literally felt like it was falling asleep, When I came home and took the wheel off I had a bubble the inside of the side wall. I was running 235 30 20 on 20x9.5. My camber is almost -5 dgrees and Im driving a G35 coupe. Im running works VSXX wheels. I never had 1 problem with my toyos, bumps, pot wholes ect....no problems.....I think I made the wrong decision going with these 452s, If there is anything that we can do with Falken, let me know, I ended up buying a different size tire cause i didnt think the size I had culd handle it. It obviously seems like a defect in these tires

I never had issues with any of my 452's or my customers for that matter and this equals A LOT of tires. Improper mounting can screw up the bead and cause issues. If it's mounted properly you shouldn't have any issues at all. To me this sounds like inexperience in dealing with stretched tires and the mounting of them. Why would I have not had any issues like this over dozens of sets of tires if it wasn't an isolated issue??? Know what I mean?

There is too many factors, I noticed my bubbles after we had our monsoon season which means when driving through flooded roads there is no telling what i might have hit. I am sure the guys that mounted my tires knew what they were doing as they have mounted stretched tires plenty of times. I have faith in them, I think i may have hit some potholes since when it rains in Tucson the roads literally fall apart. SO I am trying a different tire that will hopefully take the beating.

I will weigh in as a user of these tires...

Ive been on FALKENS for many years now. All of my cars are on them, Everything from a Benz,BMW,Lexus, to beat down S13's (that happens to be my fav:shrug: ) are on FALKEN Tires with no issues. I just put 8 new tires on my cars last month....replacing tires that were well used, stretched and trouble free.I havent had one problem with 451's or 452's.

I'm not just here 'sticking up' for my Sponsors (as some may think) this time. I have been very fortunate (and have worked very hard) in this car game and have gotten the support and respect from many manufacturers. I get 'Tire offers' from other companies all the time. Some deals that I dont even think I deserve....but I remain with FALKEN because I trust in the product. If there was a problem with quality, I would not be with them. I can certainly dont need free parts from any company and can afford to buy my own tires.

Something has to be said about properly mounting tires and what to expect when u camber and stretch the hell out of a tire...even how much air pressure to run when u do so.

As a Sponsored member of Team Falken for many years, back when just Sponsored cars were called 'Team Falken'....before they had the Drift 'Team Falken'. I havent had one single quality issue.

I dont know the exact number of tires that ive gone thru over the past years, but its a lot. Certainly more than the average person who sticks to one brand.

And I damn sure wouldnt have my Mom rollin FK452's If I thought they were unsafe.

Thats jus me tho.....

i have had these tires on my car for 5 months now and nothing but FANTASTIC, no road noise super handling and very good in teh wet, honestly for the money it is the best tire to get, As for bubbled tires, that is usually caused by not having enough tire pressure, or hitting a very bad bump, which some of you might have experienced. anyways this is my 265/30/19 falken on a 19X11

i love falkens and that is what i have on all my cars. (and have had.) BUT:

on a set of 19x8.5s i was running a set of 225/35/19 falken azenis st 115s, and after about 600 miles...no joke, the paint marks and all of the little raised hairs on the tire were still intact, they had been on the car for a week and a half...taken off for 2 days, and then remounted. after driving a half hour from the NTB, i got on the off-ramp, and the driver side rear tire made a noise, and when i pulled off, my tire was slit at the sidewall halfway around the tire. I had people look at it, and no one can figure it out...

my thoughts are that it was just a defect in that one tire. but i still love falkens, right now i'm running ze 329s on my dd, and i dont have any complaints.

Took my other tire (suspect) off this weekend and discovered that both inner sidewalls had numerous separations. Thanks to road hazard I got a new FK452. So I'll see what happens now that I have 2 new rear tires. So far everything is riding smoothly again, no vibrations.

That's what I am saying is these tires don't take a beating very well. Unfortunately this is my 1 and only car so I drive it everywhere through all types of weather. luckily no snow. MOre than likey ran over something or hit one of numerous potholes.

so I will try a different and see if it can handle Tucson. lol

I was running at 36 psi, and now run 40 psi. We'll see if this prevents it.

Benji;84085 wrote:Have any of you owned tires other than FK452's that have bubbled up?

Nankang, Nitto, Yokohama, and other Falken tires...no problem what so ever.

With the FK452's 1st time I saw bubbles in the inside wall I was like :eek4wtf: (I have never seen this ever)???? I must have hit something, numerous bubbles found on the inside sidewalls. REPLACED :signdammit: . Well after new tire replacement and alignment I thought i'd be riding smooth. I get on the highway and minor vibration still felt (must have been the other rear tire). Fast forward 3-4 months, the vibration has gotten progressively worse (to when my 2 yr old was chattering her voice was vibrating and she always got scared from vibration at 75-80mph). So I look at the outer sidewall on a sunny day (armor all might help it be more visible, it's really hard to see) and notice dips or imperfections on the outer sidewall :pat: . I took it in for inspection and SHO NUFF there are bubbles on the inside sidewalls (both sides of the tire) long and short welts all around :turborant2: . This was the second FK452 that has done this, needless to say REPLACED via road hazard protection. I don't think it was the installers fault and I think 36 psi was okay. The car is riding perfectly smooth now at 40psi and new rear tires in place, they are FK452's to match the fronts  . This will be the 1st and last time I will own FK452's.

Benji;84149 wrote:WTF?!!!!! I now have a bubble in the sidewall of my other front tire! This is sooooo gay! I officially hate the 452.

I would have to strongly AGREE!!!:saiyancrunks: I may give Falkens another chance with another line of tires they carry, but definately not FK452's. I think my next set will be Nankangs, Nexen, Nitto, Hankooks or Yokohamas.

BTW...Has anyone drifted on FK452's???? I wonder if the tire can withstand the abuse without bubbling. Oh yeah my current load ratings are 91 frt and 93 rear.
As for bubbled tires, that is usually caused by not having enough tire pressure, or hitting a very bad bump, which some of you might have experienced.
I was running at 36 psi, and now run 40 psi. We'll see if this prevents it.
Have any of you owned tires other than FK452's that have bubbled up?

WTF?!!!!! I now have a bubble in the sidewall of my other front tire! This is sooooo gay! I officially hate the 452.
That is complete crap. (seriously) We've been drifting on them since they were debuted and not once did I EVER have a problem with them. I also drifted on RT615's and again, never any issues...and that goes for FK451's and ST115's too. I doubt you're doing anything remotely close in punishment to the crap we put them through. I'm serious..it's usually improper mounting or mount/dismount/remount that screws them up since sometimes people don't know what they're doing. (you say they know, but come on, did you sit there and help them do it? I mount my own tires and obviously I don't have some magic trick..it's not rocket science, but it is easy to screw up.) If you run the air pressure to low you'll eat the sidewalls. I mean mostly it's common sense that was kicked out the door. People always want to knock on something for their own screw ups and not own up to it. (please don't take offense, but I've been doing this for 10+ years now.)

Hmm, could it be the load ratings I've been using on my Q? Failures from 215/35/19's and 225/35/19's not holding up to the Q' weight in the front? I've always ran and checked that I'm 40 psi all around when cold.

No Offense taken, But I also mention there are plenty of reason s this could be happening. I noticed mines after a severe rainstorm we had here. I honestly have no clue what could have caused tyhem but I have been checking my tire pressure constantly ever since and as someone mentioned before load rating could be a big issue here also. The series I picked has one of the lowest load ratings at about 88 for 19's maybe I just picked the wrong sizing for my car. But it is annoying to have to replace expensive tires for simple reasons.

I wouldn't say drifting and pot hole impact are the same type of beating. But hence there being a road hazard warranty. Oh well, I am just chalking my up as money lost experience learned.

Your right it's not rocket science, but I never leave my car unattended when it goes to the shop and everyone has installed the tire almost exactly the same, as far as I have observed. So I rule that out. Air pressure maybe, I am currently running 40psi, we'll see how that goes. Lastly I am running mildly stretched tires, 235/35R19 19x9.5 and 245/35R19x10.5. I just can't figure out what went wrong.

Well i run 452s on my SC stretched over an 11" and i road course that car and am hard on those tires never had a problem with them. On my GS i had one on the pass rear bubble on me but that was because I ran over a pipe in the old lady's yard other than that i run 452's on both my cars and they are fine.

1.) Low Pressure
2.) Too much Camber
3.) Too much Toe

2 and 3 equal Alighment problems
Depending on wher eyou live Tire pressure can change drastically in AZ it can increase and decrease up to 10psi :(

The Falken Dealer here had no clue which of the three but says it was definately one of them lol. Oh well.
Federals SS595 are beefier in the same sizing see how these work.

you guys with problems...if you can post the tire size and wheels size youre having the problems with? Just saying 452's having problems isn't helping. I'd like to know what kind of stretch you guys have. I was just about to drop and order for these tires....I'll be holding off for a sec now...

Thought this thread was dead?

3rd tire 1 month old maybe 1k miles
Tire pressure never lower than 35psi cold
never hit anything went to alignment shop said my alighnment is fine and toe was minimal
camber was maybe 3' but they couldn't adjust it b/c the car is too low.

I now have a bubble.
225/35/19 on a 8.5 rim
My federal has no problems. both tires are about the same age.
I don't know what else to do but buy a different tire.

mounter could be, but these guy mount stretch tires all day, i have faith they know what they are doing.

I've given up on FK452's. My conclusion would be that they run big, so you have to go down a size, but then by doing that your getting the lower load rating which I believe the reason why I'm getting inner sidewall separation on my front FK452's would be due to the weight of my frontend being too much for the load rating, also my -3.5 degrees of camber doesn't help out any on supporting the overload. I've factored out improper tire mounting due to having more than 1 person mount my front FK452's and they both failed. I'm more upset now that my latest 225/35/19 FK452 on my 19x9 failed on me in 1 month, less than a 1000 miles old. My rear 235/35/19 FK452's on my 19x10's never gave me a problem and I'm running twice as much camber for those, but I'm sure the rearend is not as heavy as the front and they are slightly a higher load rating than 225/35/19 FK452's. I've gone to Falken ST115's, 235/35/19's for the 19x9's, well I've purchased 1 so far, but now that my latest FK452 just failed on me, I'm sourcing another ST115. I have ST115 245/35/19's on the rear 19x10's. I've had them since 9/15/07 and haven't driven on them but maybe 200 miles, so far they are much quieter, give more of a stretch than FK452's at 1 size larger which are also a higher load rating. Soon as I get home from work today, I'll scan this FK452 brochure I have that talks about how the design of their tire can support up to -4 degrees of camber.

I completely agree with you here. I just don't get why design a larger diameter tire with a low load rating like it won't be mounted on heavy vehicles. I know nothing about tired design so maybe this is the best rating they could get out of it i don't know. My federal has a lower load rating but a stronger sidewall so I believe that is why it ou tlasted the fk452. well off to buy another federal.

Okay so I already stated originally that my 2 original rear FK452's both had bubbles on the inside sidewalls. They have since been replaced by 2 new FK452's.

So I go to replace the fronts today due to the tires having camber wear on both outer corners (already flipped em). First tire comes off, bubbles found on the inside sidewall. Second one comes off and this one fortunately did not have bubbles. I guess the one with bubbles was giving me that bad vibration at 75mph. So 3 out of my 4 original tires (FK452's) had the bubbles on the inside sidewall, I officially deem the FK452's STRAIGHT GARBAGE!!! New tires were put on, NOT FALKENS this time I went with NEXEN 235/35R19 with 91Y load rating (same load rating as the FK452's. Man I couldn't believe how these tire ride (mainly due to the fact that they are new) so smooth and comfy. With the new front tires on it rides like a dream, no more vibrations. The tires were like $100 a piece too, sweet!!! When the rears go out I will most likely replace those with NEXEN's as well.

I wonder if Falken would ever tune into this thread to get feedback from VIPstyle cars that are using their tires. This scares me cause I have 4 fk452's mounted on my scaras sitting in the garage...I'm not sure I want the tires anymore....

Post some pics of the nexens mounted. I'd like to see how the sidewalls look with a stretch. I am looking at alternatives because I won't be touching the FK452 due to the how wide they are for the size.

I had great experiences with Kumho Ecsta, at 6-7 degrees camber (changed throughout the year).
Shoulder tread wasnt super thick, but still lasted a fair while (1yr, or about 6000miles). They also run quite wide so i was running a 225/40 on a 10J, but no bubbles and very cheap

Anybody have experience with general exclaim tires? Seems fairly priced and treadwear is higher then most of the tires mentioned in the thread. I definitely don't want sidewall seperation nor the bubbling because I daily my ride.

So there is a guy Scott Leone on AutoLuxury style forums for Falken, His suggestion:
Bad suspension parts.

Could be My TC Rods could probably use some replacing.

Yup my tires are wearing down pretty bad on the front driver's side. I definitely need to replace them soon but for the time that i have had them i didn't come across any problems nor did i recognize any bubbles. i'll soon find out after i take my wheels off. haha. for the fronts i may be going with nankangs.

I'am officially done with Falken FK452....and probably Falken Period.

I had a brand new 225/35/19 up front....no more than 1500 miles on it it and it had a big ole bubble on the inside and then finally popped... I'M OUT. (not to mention all other issues with Falken tire)

I currently now have Pirelli and love it.

I also have 2 pairs of pirelli and Michelin in the garage. ready to be slapped on as soon as I chew these up:smiley-rofl:

but anyways, I'm all in on Michelin, Pirelli...ect...

I'v been finding lots of these used in my area for cheap....so I've been stacking:runcoold:

Good to hear that it isn't an isolated incident or installer error. Makes it a lot easier to choose tires now for me.

to be honest, i think it's due to mounting. i've had mine for over a year with no problems. no bubbles nothing. just the usual wear for any daily driven tire with neg camber.

Its more of the tire design than the tire mounting. Like I said earlier, my conclusion would be that they run big, so you have to go down a size to get more of stretched look, but then by doing that your getting the lower load rating which I believe the reason why some people are getting inner sidewall separation on their front FK452's would be due to the weight of the frontends being too much for the load rating. Anything smaller than a Falken FK452 235/35/19 (91 load rating) is not recommended due to the weight of our V8's. I've removed my sidewall separated 225/35/19's and replaced them with my old FK452 235/35/19's and they have lasted much longer than my previous 225/35/19's did when they were new.

Yeah that's basically what I have suggested. But I am running 225/35/19 Federal with a 88y and i have had to major impacts to the tire and no bubble. I took my last one to Discount tire and he said that it was a small impact. But if you guys that say your tires last a long time 2 things we would need to know are:

Size
Have you hit anything or do you do well avoiding nasty bumbs potholes and such.

have anyone have trouble getting a tire shop to mount 245/35/20 tires on 20x9.5 wheels?...well, i took mine to discount tires to get the new tires mount on and they refuse to mount them because they said that thats the wrong tire size for that wheel width...they said the correct tire size is 255/30/35 or 365/30/35....all i know is im gonna have trouble finding someone to do the rears when it goes out since the front is all ready a pain in the ass...
