Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

I am (as posted in other threads) moving to Miami soon and buying a 1uzfe powered lexus. I am a member on www.lextreme.com and have become a little obsessed with tuning this motor. Just wondering if there is anyone here with any real experience with this motor. I mean more than an exhaust system, blood and guts tuning. Anyone? What HP are you running? Mods?

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

This might be the wrong forum for you. VIP cars are not known for all out power, but you might see some that are tuned, but not the insane mods that you would see from Lextreme..

I say stay here to learn more about the style, and go to Lextreme for your power needs.

I have no problem with a vip car having a 1000 tire, that would be sweet, someone just has to do it :crazy2:

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

the question is why be a follower with the 2jz-gte and swap in a Lexus?

im sure there are a lot of 2jz-gte swapped lexus.

step up to the plate and do a swap with the tundra engine which has 4.7-liter DOHC 32-valve EFI V8 with VVT-i 271 hp @ 5400 rpm; 313 lb.-ft. @ 3400 rpm.

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

I don't plan on a swap in the near future but I'll play devils advocate.  If I do it will be a 1J in my SC400.

The 2J motor has so much proven potential and part support that its a perfect swap if you have the financial backing.  Why go to uncharted waters which will take much more time, custom work and money?

edit: those lexextreme forums are cool. So much info in there its amazing. thanks

both are good motors and I have no problem with the 2jz swap at all but if you have the custom fab skills to pull a 1uz off then do it and you will walk the supra boys like there standing still. :crazy2:

because when everyone goes to the field with the 2JZ, i rather go to the right field with 4.7 liter motor.

sure 2JZ has pontential, so does the 4.7 liter motor.

every motor out there has pontential.

Uncharted waters is the best thing for tunning world.

it's like bringing a child to the world.

in the end, you'll be proud of why you went to the uncharted waters.

thats true! everyone has their boundaries. Have you seen the 350Z vert with the v8 ? I'm pretty sure its a drift car. Last time I saw pics it was in SEMA with the motor mounted.

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

The power of the motor should have no bearing whatsoever on the styling of the car. Plus face facts. If you saw a sick VIP car pull up next to you on the highway and then mash out you'd pee your sweatpants.

I am asking because I am curious. I am here for styling and on Lextreme for power, but since there is a engine mod section here I thought I'd ask. I am more interested in having the ultimate car than having one that is strictly true to a niche. I know it will take time and money. It takes time to make money and I have a long life ahead of me, LOL.

As for the 2JZ swap. It has allways suprised me that such a sporty motor has found its way into VIP cars if these cars aren't for driving speedily. I have been seeing the supercharger kits for UZFE engines and wondering why not go that route? It would cost about the same and have more punch than just swapping a stockish 2jz. Building a 2jz for power makes a fast car... Wait, I thought VIP cars weren't for speed. I'm lost....

****whoa! just re-read this post, I don't mean it to be snappy or rude. I just wrote it in a joking manner.****

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

I think swapped 2J vip cars are few and far between in North America. I see quite a few intercoolers on VIP cars in Japan. Some might be factory turbo. Aristo came with a 2J. I'm sure they mildly mod them.

Personally I like having the extra power for the freeway and the occasional drag race. I don't think anyone is taking their VIP car for time attack, auto X or anything like that.

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

I think the superchargers on the market for VIP cars are wayyyyyyyy overpriced. With the right amount of time and research it is pretty easy to get a custom turbo kit made up and make more power. For example, done with the right parts you could single or twin turbo the 1uz for around the same price as a bare bones 2jz swap. That for me would be the reason why I would go the 1uz route, plus you can get those motors used for like 600 bucks if you happen to blow one up ;D

most 2JZ swappers dont have any imagination in tunning.

*edit* ok ok.. so which turbos would you guys piece to form a twin turbos?
i would piece together using two Garrett GT40R.

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

I think on a 1uzfe I would agree with that. I might go with something a little bigger with a 2uzfe block because you would have a bit more torque to get you up to spooling range quicker. There are a couple people who have been running twin turbo gt35r setups for a while now and love them but I don't think they have any aspirations toward really high HP.

Re: Anyone here tuning the 1,2, or 3uzfe?

The gt35R can make 650 tire per turbo so I dont really know what your saying about guys not wanting to make high horsepower. As far as putting two GT40R's on the car that would be a good turbo to use but I don't know if I would go ball bearing, the car does not need it to spool the turbos that fast and you have less options for custom trim sizes. I would go with something in the middle for a smooth power band and torque range but im not sure what the proper turbo would be without sitting down and looking at some efficence maps

nice thing about about the 2uz (besides its a 4.7 liter) is that it has an iron block vs the aluminum block of the 1uz and 3uz. :)

That doesn't mean that on a conservative setup that they do. I am trying to remember the name of the cat I was talking to on lextreme about it. His setup has been running reliably for 3 years or so now. I think he was running in the 450-465 range. *I think* Never the less, I agree with you. I think that I would like the extra choices in trim size for a project like that. Something that isn't exactly a bolt on adventure kind of demands a custom fit.

The 1uzfe has the stronger bottom end though as it has more main bolts. There are a few people who are modifying 2 and 3uzfe blocks to accept 1uzfe main caps and bolts. That's a bit over my head but I am sure that if you have a really trustworthy machine shop anything is possible.

the 2jz is not crap, sure its not original but those bottom ends have made 700-800 horse no problem with only a headgasket. My only problem with it is you have an awesome motor in the LS already, instead of spending money on the swap just do some fab work and use what you got!

Well...um...that was constructive.

The stock LS400 engine like mine has apparently made 2700 hp...numbers like that are insane and not at all applicable to VIP vehicles, but come on now. An engine with potential like that begs to be unleashed.

Your right but not much has been done with this engine BY MOST......... I replaced the plugs and wires when I 1st got the car. Then I did my own custom air intake. Other then putting a strut bar on there and making it look pretty not much has come along for this engine in the last 3-4 yrs that I messed with mine. 1.5 yrs ago I put some JP pipes to help it breath better.

I havent been keeping up w/ this engine to make it better if there is anything that has come out in the last few yrs post up that info.

Maybe a High Stall converter can be good.

Lextreme makes a high stall torque converter and according to the reviews of those whove installed it, it takes away very little from the smooth ride of the car, so long as you drive normally. Its under high acceleration conditions that the converter shows itself.

I've been looking for performance stuff for this engine myself but other than a bolt-on SC and vague references to a stroking kit (I'm mildly interested, but not enough to really start digging for that. Too much down time, unless I had another engine handy) there's not a whole lot else out there.

Maybe a High Stall converter can be good.[/QUOTE]

Lextreme makes a high stall torque converter and according to the reviews of those whove installed it, it takes away very little from the smooth ride of the car, so long as you drive normally. Its under high acceleration conditions that the converter shows itself.

I've been looking for performance stuff for this engine myself but other than a bolt-on SC and vague references to a stroking kit (I'm mildly interested, but not enough to really start digging for that. Too much down time, unless I had another engine handy) there's not a whole lot else out there.

the C's stroker kit is what you have been hearing about? it turns it into a 5.5 ltr motor? it also costs like $5000 or something. this is all vague speculation that i have referenced, upon more searching you would probably find out more information about it.

i don't know about 2700 hp, i'd be amazed if you had proof of that. i have seen some incredible nbr like 1500, on a stock block, with just redone internals, all pieced together through chevy/aftermarket parts. the motor is a monster if you have the time/money to build it. a fully built motor with some giant turbines and an engine bay big enough would easily become one helluva sleeper.

Tone it down enough to fit a luxurious application, and you've got the best of both world. Looks and power galore.

You have to love the 1UZ...

I knew the 2JZ had potential for easy power,
but I got the V8 for the sound.

It's no slouch, either. Picks on V8 Mustangs and 350Zs in style.

Ahhh... the sound...

Im running heavy mods on this engine. It has no mufflers, cats or resonators...sounds amazing @ boost.

This setup had never been done on an SC and I honestly dont know of any stateside that were boosted at the time I built this. Ive gone thru a couple engines trying to push the limits with various combo's of engine mods/tuning. @ one time I had a T66  ...it was fun while it lasted

http://driftgirl.org/STUFF/eng4.jpg

http://driftgirl.org/STUFF/IMAG0021.JPG

It also has nitrous, but I havent used it since going turbo...its just there if i REALLLLLY need it.

Anyway, The end result was using a smaller turbo, better engine management and changes in piping diameter.

Ms Emerald,

Sorry to be stickler. But I fail to see anything relative in your post vs. the images you have shown.

Do you have any images which compliment your statements? I believe the people of VSC would like to see images which truly represent -what you say. (Something that relates to your posts).

Thanks!

Maybe its because you dont know what to look for?

This thread is in regards to modding the 1uzfe engines. Mine happens to be one of the first stateside boosted sc400's around, first rear mount, Cracked the ECU problem when everyone else was trying to figure out a SAFC  etc, etc. I also have a single turbo 'conventional' manifold that I designed and partially built before loosing interest. At the time it was probably the most modded 1uzfe powerplant in a stateside SC.....and im sure its still in the top 5, even tho I havent touched it since 04 or so.

First pic is of the engine bay...no turbo in sight. The second shows how much the rear turbo is seen from the outside of the car....and pulling away from a better car*

The carange pix shows what it took to get to that point.

* that ran me down on another stretch of highway later that night

What is that supposed to mean? The 2JZ has way more potential than the 1UZ. But I still love them both. VIP is not just about styling. Ive seen a couple Yakuza cars with motor mods.

If you want to learn more about modifying the 1UZ you can always search around other Lexus forums such as PlanetSoarer.com, ClubLexus.com, Lextreme.com, etc. that will offer much more information on this topic. I have seen a couple 1UZs supercharged, twin turbo charged, single turbo, nitrous, and even manual transmission swapped. Good luck in your search.

I agree Em. You also know the hassle of the reliability of the road less travelled right. I went with slapping a turbo kit on 2JZGE and putting down some good numbers. I would do the road travelled as the path is well documented. I believe in making power not wasting money. Now if the 1UZFE is what it comes with then boost it but good luck with that. And to USERNAME the 2JZ is not crap. its one of the best motors ever created as the engineers at TRD would say its their "1000 hp dream engine that asked us to build for their race cars but then decided to put it in production cars". So go figure why its the hottest swap on it.
