K-cars?

K-cars?  Are you all talking about the super small mini cars in Japan?  Just wanted clarification since I'm a total n00b. :smiley:

Your at Kadena and you dont know........ thats hard to believe cause when I 1st came to Japan I was asking all kinds of questions.
 
Theres even magazines at the book store that say K-cars on it.

I think the question is because there isnt any K-cars in North America (are there?). Alot of people assume that any car smaller than a civic is a k-car (Fit, Yaris, etc), when they are nearly twice the size of a kei car!

SCion XB XA, toyota yaris, toyota Echo, honda fit are all K cars that they well in the USA.. they might be called something other in japan but they are all conceddered to be K cars.. 
 
K car became popular when toyota decided to re badge there toyota bB and ist in amreica as the Scion xb and XA. This is when it started to takeoff in the usa.. 
 
so there not only in Japan.

K cars aren't a style, they're a class.

If people call the Yaris, and Scions "k" or "kei", it's just because they're misinformed.

The only non-Japanese kei car at the moment is the Smart Fortwo.

For a car to be a kei car, it has to:

have a maximum length of 3.4m
have a maximum width of 1.48m
have a maximum height of 2m
have a maximum displacement of 660cc
have a maximum horsepower rating of 64

Exactly. Scions are nowhere near kei class cars, they are simply far too big!
 
Kei class cars have lower taxes and parking fees in Japan. Its like a sub-class of cars for cities where normal size almost look too big to navigate the streets.
 
We actually had a couple of kei cars sold in Australia - the Suzuki Mighty Boy, and Daihatsu Copen. There are a few imported Honda Cappucino's floating around too. They really are funny to see, next to full sized cars, even next to a Corolla!

This one the engine must have been changed out cause all the K-Cars have the yellow plate.
 
My woman use to have the Suzuki wagon r looked bigger then that the engine was small so it also had the yellow plate.
 
The tolls cost less on the expressways w/ the yellow plate.

Yeah that is the question.  Sorry about the confusion.

and yes I do know what they are out here in Okinawa, but I didn't know such a thing existed in the USA.  After doing a random search there is a company out in California selling K-car pickup trucks for about $4,500. [url]http://www.lostcoastminitrucks.com/page1/page1.html[/url]
