Tucked or Un Tucked?????
So when it comes to to your ride, what stance do you prefer when taking pics?
Do you prefer your car fully dumped w/ the rears tucked all the way in?
Or do you prefer having it where the fender kisses the lip?
I preferably like the rim kissing the lip look myself but when I'm at shows and out, I've noticed I get a bigger reaction when fully dumped and tucked. I'm planing on doing a shoot on my car and want to know if folks prefer tucked or un-tucked?

I prefer tsurachi (sp?) look with the fender sitting just in between the lip of the rim and the tire personally, shows alot of work went into the fitment IMO.
I think the masses look at dumped/tucked fitment and are just impressed with how low it is because they don't understand the work that goes into properly fitting wheels.

so weird looking at the older VIP mags and they all are untucked, then you look at more recent and everyone on air is tucked and the coilovers are untucked

At shows i go fully dumped but personal preference i like it flushed.
When the lip kisses the fender is probably the sickest stance you can get. I would love to do that but my wheels aren't aggressive enough to do so.
Nonetheless, if you're gonna do a shoot i prefer you go dumped Pancakes.

Fender on lip.
To me, if the wheel size is right, this will be almost layed out too.

Kissing the fender. Lots of work and research goes into that. You have to have the right offset wheels, tire size and camber. It not something you will see every day (Not saying you will see cars dumped everyday too but theres a better chance of it).

bah... hard parked pics suck either way.
I'd rather see daily drive height. That's what matters anyway. That's when everyone see what the car "really" looks like.

Good point. But it's different seeing the car at ride height moving than it is at a standstill.

You're right, cause when you see a car that is daily driven severely lowered, the shock and awe effect is so much greater than when it's parked. The presence the car has coming down the road is huge.
I can't remember how many times people were completely dumb founded and asked me questions about how i was able to drive my old Q and GS as low as they were. It was quite amusing. When in reality it's really not that hard to drive it that low (especially the GS).
Just what I've noticed.

yeah i think i'm more in aww when the car is actually moving than when it is parked. that's why i always prefer rolling shots. ever noticed your car looks lower when it's rolling than it is when it's parked? also when your car is moving it doesn't look dirty. haha. but yeah sorry for thread jacking oscar.
i still prefer tucked. haha.

Kiss on the lips for sure. I'd say that if the photoshoot is just for you personally, do the kiss on the lips. If you're going for a magazine that's not targeted to where people know about the work it takes to make them kiss, you should probably go dumped. My $0.02.

That's tricky. Ideally, it should be driven dumped, flush, and rolling.
Unfortunately you can only usually pick two 。゜゜(´O`)°゜。

I personally like both, I prefer dumped on air because it's so much easier to adjust the suspension than is is when you have coilovers. When I had my 91 Talon TSI I had coilovers on it and I was rolling on 17's I was slammed so far down that I was tucking 35 series rubber. If I would have had spacers I would have been kissing the lip. It was so low that I couldn't even go through the automatic car wash (the one with the tire guide). I however don't have pics anymore.

tucking half the tire only...
take the Q45/y33 for example, air doesn't slam the front anywhere near as much as the rear because of the spindle front end...it doesn't look good when the rear is slammed tucking 1" of the rim and the front can barely tuck tire...

On 20s, its gotta be tucked. Sitting 'flush' on big wheels means too much air under the car.
The trend in Japan is to be as low as possible, so its either tucking rim, or radiusing the fenders to sit flush while the car is laying frame.
Flush on standard fenders is not that common anymore.

I doubt that'll ever be a trend in the US though... it sucks most people are too conservative.
However, a few years ago most people didn't realize what an offset meant or even cared and now people are starting to realize how much of a visual impact offset can make. Maybe they will realize height can make the same impact, or at least compliment a well executed offset?? Who knows...

i found it funny when people always say go more negative camber or go with more spacers. what they don't know is sometimes those owners already tried. is perfectly fine if the car just sit, but the owners drive on them too. i whether have it the way it is so it can be driven tuck tire lip to lip low then to add a cheap 5mm spacer and ride like 4x4 because the tire touch the inner fender. for example the jp gs i posted with scaras i already scratch the lip from being too aggressive.
what i want to see is the people who always say to more negative camber or more spacers post a pic of their own car rolling so i can learn from them.

see you guys and that LIp kissing hte fender bullshit is retarded
Yeah it looks cool
but you cant drive with it like that
I pulled my fenders wiht less than 2mm Of clearance between the wheel and fender as the suspension traveled
there is no way you can drive a car that has a wheel sticking out so it would *kiss* the fender
my 2C on that
But for me, as long as your barely hitting when you tuck, tucked all the way
if you have some stupid sizing and your wheels ownt tuck in, i guess the normal height

Right. People dont understand that if it was that simple, everyone would do it.
I think tucking is fine as long as long as the wheel is still near the fender when tucked and if the car is like an inch off the ground.

FLUSH is NOT the only way to go........ you cant drive low so whats the point of ONLY being flush is the only way. Once the car is raised up some it rubs like A$$. Alittle poke looks cool but driving 4x4 is NOT VIPstyle.
Tucked is okay sunked in NO WAY.......... I have had both and i like both but over all driving higher then you need to be is NOT COOL.

I thought this is a flush or tucked question. If this is a ride hight question then i think you should change the heading. I like the flush look and i drive like that and it rubs only on hard bumps but other then that its fine. In the end dont matter what people say because it will be your car in the end and your the one paying for it... so you might as well have it the way you want

I think what this thread is lacking is the point someone brought up about y33's.
The key to ANY look is flow.
If you want a "dumped" look then the rear AND front should both be even. Both should be tucked. Otherwise it looks out of place.
The same goes for the "flush" look. If the rear is flush but not the front, it looks lacking.
Both can look good, both have their own appeal, but they both need to flow.

I see your point. Which is why the ultimate compromise seems to be inside the fender but as close as possible.
But on the other hand, lip of fender still wins me for photos.

all depends on how the car flows and how big your wheels are. i run 19's and 20's on my gs and i am tucking 10 mil of rim in the back and i am 5 mil off the rim in front. the car sits level. Looks good to me!

Do you mean your running 19's in the front and 20's in the back? I'd love to see how you car looks with that kind of setup. Even if you aren't running that setup, i want to see how your car tucks :)

My comment about rideheight has everything to do with this thread. To me if the car is tucked, but that is ride height then thats the height i like
(for me it looks better than seeing a car which is tucked just for pics, because in my mind all i see is the image of that car picking up her skirt and prancing off)
BUT if your actual ride height is closer to tsuraichi, then thats the height i would rather see.

Yah, for me it's basically I love to ride low, as low as possible and have the rim edge as close to the fender as possible without having clearance issues. It's been that way on all my cars. If it means I have to end up radiusing my fenders on the Jag, then so be it. But I prefer the look of Big Steve's car above as being ride height.

This man speaks the truf!
Air suspension is ruining "vip style" in the us. :-( imo I cite Oneton's air setup a lot becuase quite frankly it's the only one that's been done right in the US on a vip car. When your full up is lower than 90% of cars ride height, that's what air suspension is supposed to be, not to make your car look like a hummer driving down the road.

I agree completely. But it's not that only a few people can do it. It's that only a few people are willing to do what it takes to do it.
I mean, a little math and a lot of time processing fenders is all it takes. Which isn't hard. But, most people aren't willing to go that far.
It's harder to pull off tsuraichi on air and drive it that way. In my opinion (and experience) you'd need to be on fairly stiff coilvoers to do so. But, i've never had air so I can't say it's just an observation from the information i have on air suspension.

the suspensoin travel you need will not allow you to do it

It can be done check out some vw sites those guys pull off some crazy stuff as far as fitment goes.
Rolling shots and everything. cleaned.be is one of em. Definatly some hardcore fitment guys on there. Vortex is just plain gay.
But i do agree with you it's very hard to do.

yes, i can roll front/back but not far if theres bumps or if i have to turn. but i usually roll with "1 finger" all around. (if thats even a correct way to measure height, hahaha)
hope that helps pancakes with your "tucked or un-tucked" question.

I'm just wondering...do most suspension designs always cause the wheel to travel directly up and down? Because it seems to me that by taking advantage of camber, the wheel could be just under the lip and move into the fender upon compression...ultimate fitment..
Is that possible?

That's what most suspensions do actually. Only a few don't act in that fashion. All McPherson types do that and is why I made the fitment work on many of my cars. I would place the lip "just" past the fender with only a slight gap..mostly tucking the tire (about 2/3) and then when the suspension compressed it would just clear the fender by about two pieces of paper.

every nissan suspension does it
thats how you tuck
only solid rear axles dont change camber as far as i know (but i can be wrong and sur ei am)

That's correct.
I think solid axle VW's are the worst for moving the wheel forward when severely lowered.

LoL, there was a beetle that looked almost as low as that blue one in the driveway of an exhaust shop near my place. One day i was sitting at the lights infront of the shop and the owner jumped in the car. I said to my gf "watch this, he's gonna lift up the air suspension" but no... he just drove it out at that height... it was very cool...
Btw, I wonder... was that red car at stock height before the driver got in??
Big Steve... You said you drive with one finger gap - do you mean one finger between fender and lip? Or 1 finger between tyre and fender?
