y33 camber help !!!

hello guys,

I just got back from alignment shop and the front is fine and ready to go since I have camber plates, no rub.

but the problem is at the back. I have 20x10 +8  255 35 20 tires with a maxed out -4.5 camber. It is still hitting the tire. I need at least another HALF INCH of clearance to clear completely.  My rear quarters are shaved.

any suggestions ?  what can I do to get more camber ? should I just pull the quarter panel ?

like i stated in another post of this...you can get away with a slight roll and pull...you can maybe do a stretch of tire if yours isnt too bad right now...but other than that there is nothing else that i believe you can do....of you can get some JIC rucas. thats always an option..im not sure what the max is for those on - camber....but im sure it will give you that extra 1/2 inch.

What part of the fender is hitting the tire? Is it the fender lip or the inside of the fender?

the side of the fender is hitting the side of the tire (mid section of the tire) . 

I still have about 5mm of fender tab to cut and I can go narrower on the tires (from 255 35 20 to 245 35 20). But Im worried that I will still need a fender pull.

slight pull and stretch that tire

change your tire at least to 245-35 and you'll be fine. this is 245-35-20 nankangs on a 20x10 +5 with JIC's with natural camber

man thats a lot of tire compared to what was on my old wheels. did you also notice how much of the fender i cut in the pics? id rather suggest you go 245-30-20. you wont rub for sure. i got a little rub, but id rather go samller so it wont rub at all. this is speaking from experience

No way, I don't want to do 30 series. 

so u did get a little rub ? was it on the rim  lip or the tire ?

Qoozy have you  adjusted or maxed out your rear camber ???

yeah it's maxed out on OEM suspension components. I think it's at -4.5.

the tire, but i think 245-35 will be fine since you have that 3mm (.11) diff. it just rubbed very little. or just do 235-35-20

I would go with a 235/35/20 if your going to get tires..if not rent a fender roller and massage the rear fenders till you have what you need..:shrug:

I'm changing it to 245 35 20, the front is already 245 35 20 and it would be weird if I had narrower tires at back.

it should be OK once I shave-skin down the excess fender tab. I have an extra 3mm from Antbo's set up so I'm hoping I won't need to pull.

if not I'll pull it a bit with heat gun and pipe.

Change your tire size and you WILL be golden!
WOW! 245/35/20 in the front! LMK how that works out!
I have 225-35-20 in the front and I'm hating it because the wheel well is preventing me from driving lower! I can't wait to get 19s again!

thats an easy fix, it has nothing to do with being on 20's

Get a 225/35/20 front and 235/35/20 rear

Get a 225/30/20 get some adjustable camber plates and your golden in the front...

How long would those last! 225-30s :pat: 
I just bought new fronts so I'll work on tearing these up! :smiley:

kinda wierd,

the sumitomo 255 35 20 and the falken fk452 255 35 20 seem to be different.

the falken stretch more with nice, noticable slant. the sumitomo's had no slant and looked very wide.

OK I switched to 245 35 20 and shaved the fenders down to bare minimum, it clears OK now, drivable but still rubs a tiny bit. I'm gonna have to pull it just a little bit.

but yeah so far so good. The wheel lip lines up exactly to the fender, it looks very good.

wow it's nice to see your wheel lip on your side view mirror.

Makes for easy parallel parking huh? :)

wait i just read that your post about the 245

yes the 245 35 20 at the rear worked out perfect, amazes me how we (VIP enthusiast) have engineered wheel/tire fitment to the last millimeter. This is literally a millimeter of clearance.

I don't think I need to pull the rear quarters anymore. I'm gonna drive it a few more days and listen for some rub sounds.

the front is 20x9 +10 245 35 20
the rear is 20x10 +8 245 35 20

I think you should change your fronts to 235/35 or 225/35...they look buldgy compared to the streched rears..

yeah your right. 235 35 20 will definitely be my next size for the front, this would allow me to straighten up the camber and line up the wheel lip to the fender.

thanks for the thumbs up, I like the D3S wheels but I kinda wish I went with the euroline DH. a 10j with +8 would have given me a crazy 5.5"  lip. The d3s in 10j +8 only gives off 4.5" of lip and this is with the protruded spokes. the face design was not intended to give off mean lip, the spokes protrude which kinda takes away from the lip.

I actually don't use my side mirrors when I drive, they are always pointed at the wheels to assure I dont rub or have another blowout. I just turn my head before switching lanes or turning. The back tires are so thin and the ride is so smooth that I on a few occasions had a flat without really noticing other then the fact that the car would steer more to one side then the other.

I guess those are some VIP driving habbits that you develop over time from bad experiences :biggthumpup: Im glad to know im not alone on that one lol

wow are the tires that prone to blow with the camber ? you guys are freaking me out.  I've been extra cautious, but now this makes me not want to drive my car out.

Sorry if I made you feel that way but once you start stretching tires and running -camber, tires dont last very long.  From my personal experience, buying the right tires is the most important thing, I did alot of trial and error.  You should be ok with the tire specs you had posted.  I was running smaller sizes then what you are and my wheels are wider so keep that in mind plus NYC is notorious for potholes.  Well I hope that makes you alittle less stressed out lol.

I'm glad that you didn't pull the fender. I agree that going with a 235 in the front would look better.  20" tires are $$$ though!  
 
You can always sell the wheels and get another set when you get bored of the DS3.  That kit is really nice.  Keep up the good work.
