Thanks everyone for the comments. Just looking to buy some RUCA's and Wheels very soon to complete the look... Oh and of course some tint and curtains ;).

To be honest, I really haven't a clue.. BUT I can say that I have hit the bump stops a couple times going over big dips in the road. No loud clunking, no strange noises, and to be honest.. It's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be :).

They're the stock Touring model wheels AFAIK.. I jus keep 'em clean ;)

i'm thinking thats one of the best choices in s14 springs on a y33 because the megans spring rate is quite stiff compared to the other springs out there except for the rsr race springs...

are you tucking front tire??? :D ehehe not bad not bad

im just curious but is this safe? does the car still retains the smooth ride? because this looks like an option for me instead of teins.

That's exactly why I went with megans.. I knew if I wanted to drop the car I had to do my research and find the stiffest ones. Best part is.. I paid $132 SHIPPED for the springs, what a steal.

Sure it's safe as long as you do it correctly. As far as the smoothness, you're always going to sacrifice ride quality when lowering any car, especially with springs and stock struts. Once the stock struts blow I do plan on putting them to some testing and rebuilding them with thicker oils to experiment. I'm doubtful it will do anything, but it's worth a shot.. right?

But to answer your question, ride quality with these springs and stock struts.. all around, 6 out of 10.

the regular rsr springs are soft and the rsr race springs (my mistake) are still not as stiff as the meagans
only thing is the rsr springs drop the car less if you think the meagans are too extreme

I would like to know if 86gts are scraping his cats or anything else at that height, or if he's high sided yet =p

These kinds of questions shouldn't have to be made if thread starters were passing on CORRECT information.

Eightsixgts,
Please post pics of the install or the supsension. Did you even do your own install??!?! Are you sure you did not use S13 suspension? It seems more likely, since S13 parts mate better to the Y33 chassis.

Please do your homework and post USEFUL information, as opposed to hearsay.

Thank you

Ok. So with a bit more leg work, i'll add credible information.

1997-98 Q45 and/or Q45t same front struts.
1999+ is where they have two different options.

We're still trying to get to the bottom of this.

Anyone else have anything that we can reference. Pictures??? Is this a myth?

Theonly difference between the Q45T and Non-Touring is, the Touring has a little motor on top of each strut up front that allows you to tighten the suspension when neede by a push of a button! Everything else is pretty much the same!

BTW-C4President has been rockin S14/13 springs (I forget which ones) on his Y33 and he has 20s w/ meaty tires! Hit him up......

Your comments aren't really useful. We've already come to the conclusion that things are different. What we need to know now is, how do they differ with respect to using S-chassis springs.

Let us know if you come up with anything better.

you know Chris, there really isn't any need for the condescending tone. advising someone to talk to someone who has already done what they are asking about IS credible. the whole purpose of these threads is to share information and what is useless information to one person may be exactly what someone else is looking for. please, just have a bit more tact so you don't come across as arrogant.

Thanks for the comments.

You really don't know me and my involvement in this shit hole industry. I'm not trying to cut down on anyone or anyone's intelligence. I mean no offense in what I say.

My whole outlook is this...we all come to this forum for knowledge. We all want to come away a little smarter than we were when we logged in. But, I digress, how is this possible when we get people that (obviously) do not work on their own cars and post comments/threads without any first hand knowledge.

I appreciate people trying to help. But seriously, I'm trying to get to the bottom of some misinformation, so that people do not continue to try to use S14 springs on a Y33 chassis. I would rescind all my comments if someone would actually provide a first hand account of installing S14 springs into a Y33 whether it's a T or non-T.

Staying up till 2am working on a car, and realizing that shit doesn't work is not fun. (You're prob thinking it's personal at this point...LOL.)

well making it fit is just the start of your problem.

the s14 springs are made for a s14 which weighs about 1000 pounds less than the y33. So you need to make sure the spring rate is high-strong enough to support the extra 1000 pounds. Otherwise you'll bottom out easily.

then you'll need a strut that can support that height and can take a beating.

without these two requirements, your struts, tires and wheels will not last. Not to mention how rough your ride will be.

Hopefully we can all work together and solve your spring fitment problem.

There's no false information. I did infact do my own install, and obviously it does work since I had my car dropped quite a bit in those pictures. I stated exactly what springs I ordered and you can put together the fact that I have a Touring Q45. I'm not the first person to do it, and I'm not sure why yours don't seem to fit but I find the condensending comments toward everyone else a bit unnecessary as well.

The first hand account are the pictures on the first page. I did it on my car, others have done it as well. I don't think it's necessary to post up a DIY on installing lowering springs, do you?

Works for me. Your car is lowered.

I officially rescind all my previous comments.

Thank you

[QUOTE=eightsixgts;89378]There's no false information. I did infact do my own install, and obviously it does work since I had my car dropped quite a bit in those pictures. I stated exactly what springs I ordered and you can put together the fact that I have a Touring Q45. I'm not the first person to do it, and I'm not sure why yours don't seem to fit but I find the condensending comments toward everyone else a bit unnecessary as well.

my struts are pretty much blown at this point in time but that was something I figured would happen in a fairly short amount of time. I really only did it for a temporary fix, but paired with some kyb shocks and it wouldn't be half as bad since they are quite a bit better valved for that type of usage.

Depends on the KYB. Most struts that are non-adjustable (GR-2) will not handle aftermarket springs that are stiffer than OEM. In my experience, Tokico Blues and KYB GR-2's are aftermarket replacements. Much like higher end Monroe struts.

If you want a strut that will not blow, I'd recommend KYB AGX. In my experience, these do very well with higher spring rates.

If you go with a spring that is like 40% - 50% stiffer than OEM, then you will need custom valved struts.

Hope this helps.

Very true, but they don't make AGX's for Y33's.

Then if he tries to use GR-2's then he'll probably going through the replacement process again in the near future.

I should have done more research before I mentioned the AGX's.

Thank you.

True as well, but unfotunately they don't make GR-2's either for the Y33's. They do make NEW SR Specials which are sort of hard to come by and usually special order from Japan. These do work well with Y33 TEIN S.Tech springs.

ahhh yes, i forget that the fronts are spindles. sucks for y33 owners. i do not have a Q, but i've worked on a few. Not the funnest thing.

I hate it when we can't get "JDM" struts in the USA.

I also heard that if you install lowering springs on struts that are not short stroke, they will end up blowing just like your stocks. TRUE?

Yes and no, its hard to say, but I will say that Y33 TEIN S. Tech and IMPUL (discontinued) springs can run with the oem struts without problems, or at least I went 1 year with both sets of springs on the same oem struts (143K miles) without blowing yet. Not sure about the whole S14 springs on oem Y33 struts though.

I will agree with Benji; Yes and no. I would say the typical rule of thumb is if you're lowering ANY car over 1.75 inches from stock height, you should invest in either aftermarket shocks suited for that drop and springrate, or short stroke shocks if available for that application. If I'm not mistaken the Y33 and Impul springs are a good drop but I don't think it's more than 2 inches.. correct me if I'm wrong Benji. S14 springs that I installed, on the other hand, are closer to a 3 inch drop which really leaves little-to-none shock travel, not to mention the shock is out of its efficient stroke range which is really why they blow out much quicker.

running s14 springs on your Y33 will blow your OEM struts....not a question of if but when will it happen. The S14 springs are almost 4 inches shorter overall that the OE Y33 springs without compression and they compress more than tne stock springs due to the weight differential between the S14 and the Y33. buyin an aftermarket spring may give you better rates so that compression is not as much, but you will still be way out of the optimal shock travel range.
