What do you know when wood is no good?

Viagra isn't going to fix this one. 21 year old wood, faded, ugly, doesn't match my new table. There's not much of it but seriously I can't stand it.

I know painting interior pieces is considered 'ghetto' to some i'm wondering if I can get away with it if I do it professionally. Remember there is very little wood in the car.

Use this stuff on it to get it to kinda look like the suede. Plus its funky and new, people might really dig it.

The 2 colors of the interior are red and black. So I was thinking either do just black. Another thought I had was doing black and red checker.

Now here me out on this one.  They make it in a swirl like this:

Black and red swirl would be a great way to split up the top of the car (which is black) and the bottem (which is red)

Rich aka zion_97 does this kind of stuff and it comes out looking like real wood.  Im sure he will chime in

personally, depending on the pattern you go with....I'm really diggin' number 3.

i like the last 2, but i'm not sure how good it will look. i would lean more towards black/grey. i also perfer hydro transfer to painting. if it was me (i acually wanted to do a similar blk/red color scheme at one point) i would consider the grey burl hydo process. looks factory.

I honestly feel that Custom painting interior is not Ghetto..if done up right..Looking at some of the tuner cars that paint thier interior trim, Yellow,Grean,Orange gets to be a little silly looking, but to have a correctyl custom painted wood grain is PIMP...and its not cheap either to pay someone to do  it...THere are a few options. YOU can have your parts water transfer printed wich is the way that most cars wood interior is done from factory..BUt dont know how it will take to wood, usually done to plastic pieces. other alternative is to sand down your wood so the bare wood if its real wood then restain it and poly coat it...Then next is to custom paint a wood grain which is not easy to do unless you  have had expierence doing so..I have been custom airbrushing off and on for over 15 years. I have painted true fire,flames,woodgrain paterns, metal tearing etc...and you would be amazed on what an airbrush and technique can do for you...

far from looking ghetto..IF I had a customer that wanted to have thier parts painted I would charge a pretty penny..so once again..if done right it goes from ghetto to PIMP!

Wow that looks great! Seriously that is some incredible work.

I personally don't think painting interior peices is ghetto, I think that when most people hear you painted your interior they think bright tuner colors like lime green and purple. I'm going to go with idea number 3 I think. 

zion_97, theres no way i'm going to be able to do it anywhere as well as you did, but do you have any pointers for me? The website said to use cling wrap to get that effect. Anything else I should know? Thanks!

good luck with that..just remember to make sure you as enough clear.that area that you pmd about will see alot of foot action and might and up scratcing off over time...:shrug: ..........
 
I know you can do it I got faith in you guys!..just use the exact colors and you should get the same color wood as your OEM color wood.

And cling wrap for texturing? What did you use?

zion i hope you didn't think i was implying that painting is ghetto. your car is sick and your matching is better than woulda i thought a human could do. i just perfer it my way. i also did not understand that he was painting real wood. anyway, read the how-to it explains it all.

Nah man didn't take it the wrong way...I would have prefered to do mine with hydro transfer but, Cost wise why when I could do it and get similar results. If it was something I could not have done than hydrographics would have been my #1 choice.

Personally, I think that black/charcoal burled wood, or marble effect is a really cool that keeps things more interesting than a solid colour, but still looks classy when done right.

have you seen this? Alot of Scions are doing it.. might not be real wood but sure as hell looks real.. its the same thing used in lexus panels.. hey have CF and Wood and a lot of diff types or style of wood..

Any idea how the weave is in the carbon fiber? Is it a weave applied to transfer sheet or is it printed? I have always wanted blackwood...

Alright, I got a VERY reasonable quote to get the whole thing done in that blackwood INCLUDING my super sweet side table. I have to measure and cut out room for the boost and oil pressure gauges and then i'll be ready to ship them off. I'm really hoping it turns out sweet. Cross your fingers guys!
