thanks for the comments guys. getting some props from people who's cars i think are hot to death on here is awesome.

i'm about 2 days away from closing a deal on some 19" Varianzas D3S' ( 19x9 +29 front, 19x10+24 rear...tire recommendations anyone?) and i'm still looking around for springs to get rid of that gap until i get the real suspension sorted. im not sure about coilovers or air because i like the active dampening system (rides like a dream). i plan on getting everything right the first time around so i spend a lot of time on here reading and then researching on my own. i had a 92 240sx before this and it wasn't expensive to do some trial and error, but with the Q there is no room for trial and error. for the price of parts i either get it right the first time or not at all.

so, my first step is rim's tires and springs and next i am going to look into getting a respray. i'm in love with the anniversary color (the pics do it no justice) so it's going to be in the same color. after that i'm just gonna go bit by bit until i run out of money, because let's face it...are car projects ever really done?

be prepared for me to be asking some dumb questions and posting what seem like obvious threads in the coming months. i'm sure you can understand my need for the right info.

wait...a wood floor? guess that would save on carpet cleaning and i can practice my tap moves at long traffic lights.

or, not.

i'm new too, but i would almost say get your stance right before the wheels. any of you old schoolers agree? i'd kinda rather get low on stocks, than sit high on anything. also i agree on dippin that upper console. wonder why nissan always does that. i would wait for respray until suspension and kit (if you plan on one) are done.

i agree on that too, even the most dopest looking wheels on stock height kind of messes up the overall look of it. currently im on stock wheels but it's on air suspension and they make my stock donuts 10x better!!! so if i were you I would take a look at air suspension or some coilovers to "do it right the first time". because like what you said.. VIP is really expensive and there's no time for trial and error. springs are fine but your stance won't be that aggressive and you might want to lower it even more in the future.

i plan on dropping it before i get the rims and tires put on so i know what i'd have to do to get the rims to sit right. i also wanna get some bills paid down before i spend the money on tires. i think that i'll drop it with the stock rollers and wait until after winter to put the rims on. i'm not trying to run around in the snow with expensive rims and tires. plus it'll give me a chance to get other little things for the VIP look in the meantime.

i can't wait for it to get cold so i can use those heated seats. right now they are good for after going to the gym and my lower back is hurting. sooo relaxing.

Did you close the deal on the D3S wheels? If not, don't feel too bad, those offsets will leave you wanting better fitment in the long run and sooner or later you were probably going to end up getting spacers for them or ditching the wheels altogether for some more agressive offsets. So as for "getting it right the first time", those wheels are nice, but they may leave you wanting better fitment later. Good job on picking a great car to start out with. I noticed your from DC too, not too far from me.

yeah, i closed the deal on the D3S' and i already figured on needing spacers eventually. i don't mind too much if they aren't that aggressive, just yet. i think eventually once i get a aero kit i am going to need different rims...but that is a way off. i love the D3S's and aggressive or not...i know i'm gonna love them on my car.

i don't live in DC anymore actually. i live in Gaithersburg, MD. still not too far from you, and someday i'd like take a look at that Q of yours that i've been seeing all over the web. it's hot man.

Thanks man. Ya know, if the price was right, I'd probably jump on those D3S wheels myself, I have no problem rocking the spacer, the face design of those wheels aren't really emphasizing deep lips anyway, they are a sweet wheel and something I was looking for before I got my current Works. I just came across some negative offset wheels and decided to run with them. You'll like those wheels no matter what. We'll meet up eventually, maybe at the MegaMeet.

I've know too many people who start car projects but have a hard time finishing, because other parts of the car decide to break. I'd say make sure that everything is running perfectly 100% before changing anything. Change and flush out all fluids, etc. Do all of the preventive maintenance procedures before things break. Drive it stock for a while to get to know the car better, before doing any major changes... as this will make it easier to figure out if that particular modification is beneficial or make to car too way hard to drive.

the car runs perfect. it only had 69,000 miles on it when i got it. other than paint blemishes and the odd little marks in the interior there isn't a thing wrong with it...other than its got the stock suspension, rims & tires, no curtains, etc.

oh sure, tell me that after i buy rims.

:pat:

nah...i don't really want that low of an offset, i prefer a more flush look. don't get me wrong, i like low offsets on VIP's...but that really isnt my style. maybe in a few years when i decide to get some new rims i will, who knows.

i'm guessing (emphasis on the guess) that from what i've seen in the VIP magazines, the executive style would be the more subtle cars. Like, not so low, larger that 19" rims, not as many obvious accessories and probably more of the higher end Toyotas or even BMW's and Mercedes. But, i've been wrong about things in the past...

thats not going to be at all near flush

18x8 and 10 +22 with a 20mm spacer all around were flush on my y33..... without a fender roll and only maxed camber in the rear

then i guess i'm gonna have my work cut out for me.

i just checked and i don't think it'll be that hard with my stock offset on a 17 x 7.5 being 30mm. i guess i'll find out after a test fit i guess.

ok, i was bored at work and i was thinking of offsets. this image is to scale and is best how i understand offsets to work. i have about just over an inch of gap between my lip and wheel well and by the look of this it will sit plenty flush. if i'm wrong, lemme know.
