What problems have you had with your previa???

Well I have decided to add a new car to the family and I have my eye on a few of Previa's..after seeing a few of them VIP'd up I am really feelin them..I was either going to start works on my LX470 but have decided that the Previa has more potential...
 
I would like to know how these cars ride, run and handle..are their known problems such as ac condensers transmissions etc.. I know that I will be buying used and for the prices that these sell for cant expect them to be to perfect but like I said I would like to know ahead of time what to look out for as I look for one to buy. Oh I cant Waite. THis will deff be on air as it will be the Family VIP van and I don't want to have my kids walking because we cant go somewheres on coilovers..
Will me aggressive with the wheel fitment and from what I have seen it looks like these can handle it...

Wheel Fitment is just sick..[not feelin the side mirrors though]this is actually the car that made me want to go aggressive with the fitment on my Q and I want my Q's fitment to be just like this..just about there just need that 25mm spacer and I will be just like this....woooo woooo..

Rich. Oil leak somewhere near engine. Tried replacing the gasket but still doesn't work. 94-97 previas are a bitch to replace struts. Remember the estima pictured above has independent rear suspension. US previas have solid rear. If you're planning to do an IRS swap, you'll probably spend around 7grand on the mod.

Valve cover gasket tends to develop leaks over time.  SAD shaft will need to be updated to the new version.  Pretty damn reliable over all.  Many are out there with 250k+ mi.

Yup my parents' previa is 280k right now and running strong and my van is 120k.

So using the US rear will there be a problem running air suspension and camber? Dont want to spend 7k in a rear suspension..

Just get a 1st gen Odyssey. :)

There is no problems with running air on the US rear. Remember I'm running Air Runner. I love it. The only thing is that you won't be able to get the previa to have that negative camber pictured in the estima pic.

aaaaaaa no -camber...but I like it  :sad:  and I cant afford no 7 g's for rear sus :signdammit:.
any other option or is that it. Now that would limit the offset and would not be able to go deep

Alot of the Previas i've seen around tend to sound super charged. But i know that's not the case. HAha.

tons of previas are supercharged. certain models came that way. its just too bad it only makes about 150 horsepower even when SC'ed. and gets horrible gas mileage when so.

and ??? on the $7000 IRS swap? what could possibly cost that much? finding a used rear end would be the hardest part, but the parts alone could only cost at the most imaginable $1500.

and as far as offsets go, without the ability to camber the wheels, your offsets will max out in the mid 30 range. unless you get flares, and space the wheels accordingly.

SC = 161 hp / 201 lb-ft (at least that's what Toyota claims).  I wonder if it's easy to get more power by swapping in a smaller pulley?
 
I get about 21mpg avg, not too bad

you can always find a larger s/c to swap into the mix... i forgot if the 4agze was bigger or not......but i dont think it would be to hard to mount up like a procharger on it.

i turned down a previa with a blown headgasket... looked like coffee on the dipstick. didnt have the proper equipment to drop the motor from the bottom...... =/ other then that i think they are nice vans..... hmmm how about somone swap in a rear engine design with !!!!!!! use like a mr2 engine or a northstar v8 set up !!!!!!!... meh.

i was just asking out of curiosity, not in a "what makes you so sure" type way...

it seemed that you knew exactly what it takes to swap it over, that totalled $7k.

i'm sorry but were you just estimating?

and as soon as i get the previa, thats more than likely the first project i attempt.

i had a ton of problems @ 208k miles

lucky im a mec for toyota . I found 2 vans in my state.  all wheel SP and rear wheel. You know the motors are out off a toyota fork lift.Im gowing to make a air kit for the previa van that we all can afford. I can get the kits for a good price.I will keep you posted.

How soon and how much do you project we can afford? My front struts are shot and need a solution reasonably soon - I was going to order coilovers form our importer but if this is soon & cheap enough I'll nurse it along & wait.

Looking forward to picking up one soon, possibly tonight!  Have my eye on a 92 with 242k miles... it's a base model but that won't matter by the time I'm done with it :biggthumpup:

We love our Previa & cant wait to dump money into it. My wifes only demand on the starting vehicle was the double sunroofs, which we got. Now its JDM headlights & grille that just arrived, taillights getting ordered tomorrow, ordered the stereo yesterday (D3 with bluetooth, XM, Ipod, changer, etc) Next are rims & tires (likely 18s because its her daily driver) and drop kit (coilovers unless air gets cheap fast). Then its the hard stuff like what color to paint it (pearl green now, maybe the same - dont know yet. What does everyone think of the fac green?)
 
Guess I should have answered the main question: Problems
 
199K miles & brakes have a slight squeak (sensors starting to touch) and valve cover gasket leaking - both problems being fixed tomorrow when the dealer delivers parts.
