I put a few on some cars a while back that were on some large turbos, don't remember the brands but they worked pretty good. I would only put something like that on a turbo car... remember NA needs backpressure!
UNLEASH THE POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D i'd imagine on an n/a car though, as long as you put it after the catalytic you'd be ok....just cutting out the muffler, don't see it doing too much though honestly (once again, thats with an n/a car)
There are pluses and minuses of putting it on. The main plus is you can have a free flow exhaust at a click of a button, and the cops would even know what it was. For turbo and super chargers, they would be great because you get free flow and you don't need back pressure. For N/A, you suffer low end, like you would a free flow muffler or full exhaust, but it really makes up in high end. I have installed many when I worked at my last Fabrication shop. I would definately put it on my J30, N/A or turbo, but not yet. ;D
I have put them on a few "Muscle" cars I have built, but more or less they are redesign of the old "Wizard" couplers that would do the same thing but you manually had to crawl under the car and open those. Cool in thier own right.

This requires a smaller diameter pipe which in turn causes backpressure which isn't good no matter what application, but since with NA you need to compromise between this and velocity, people tend to think it's the backpressure that helps. The ultimate exhaust for NA would have the most velocity possible with a minimum of backpressure.
Firelizard: Thanks for going into more detail, you are correct in what you are saying, I was justing putting out there that adding the cutout could lead to a loss in low end power and I wanted people to be warry before slapping one of these things on but you are correct about velocity I should have gone into a bit more detail but your covered it for me!!!!!!!!
