HID Glare in Stock Headlight Housing

I just got HID installed into my 97 Odyssey (factory is H4) but it glares like crazy.  What can you do to reduce or complete elliminate glare?  a little research says casperselectronics.com has a D2S/D2R adapter that will fix this problem.
 
What have you done to eleminate glare? will this adapter work?

That's the reason you're not supposed to put HIDs in non-HID housing... with some models, the glare is not a problem, but yeah, your housing just aren't made to project HID....

Typically many cars come with what we call glare guards.  They help to cut the light profile to create what is called the beam pattern and cutoff.  This prevents light dispersion to higher levels which can blind oncoming traffic.  On some cars there is a very good reason for them..on others not so much depending on the design of the lights.  Most projector lenses don't really need a glare guard, but standard halogens really benefit from them.   On many fog lights they are not needed and most times I remove them for more coverage and they don't blind traffic at their level.

i recommend casper shields. they will reduce the glare by a lot. My hid kit came with them built in. ive ran 2 types of setups one with no casper shield and one the casper shields and its a world of difference. just make sure that your also aiming your headlights properly and you should be fine and not blinding people. You can run hid's on non hid housing, just be smart about it and use the shield and proper aiming, the only thing your losing out on is that your hid's arn't working the best that they could be working because of your housing. but thats when its time for a projector retro fit, if it really starts to bother you. personally i think there 20 times better then halogens just they way they are when aimed right and with the shields. so i can't justify spending money on a retro fit

Ya I had same issue with too much HID glare on stock halogen y33 headlight housing.

I changed out my hid bulb to ones that have a attached casper shield and they helped A LOT. 

Most of the newer HID bulbs should come attached with a casper shield.

Researching all day points me towards Casper shields. I just dont know if it will work in my application. I dont know if it will fit my aftermarket HID/factory housing. I dont know how effective it will be.
 
You've tried/are using casper shields?

Did you buy it from casperselectronics.com?

also, some people are saying the shield gives it a green or yellowish apparence and that i need to paint it black. any thoughts?

This is why HID's in non equipped vehicles are illegal.  I would suggest getting the shield or do a retro fit with some audi projectors.  They are not that much, just make sure the cutoff is not too high.

what i have is h4 hid bulbs
the shields on casperelectronics is an adapter with the shield for d2r bulbs to be used for h4 housing applications
i wonder if there is any glare shields for h4 bulbs

otherwise i'll be aiming my h4 bulbs as low as my fogs lol

I just installed H4 HIDs on my Odyssey RL1 and the low beams glare almost as high as the high beams. If I bring them down then I would be using the glare as my headlight... :pat:

ya skidmark, i just realized that my bulbs are H4 HID's, so a casper shield wont even fit.. I 'm going to have to either paint the bottom half of the reflectors black, or retrofit a piece of sheet metal to cover the bottom half. Or I can go all the way and get projectors..but forget it.

forget the seperate casper shields, FIND A H4 BULB THAT HAS A BUILT IN SHIELD. There are a ton of them on ebay.

don't paint your bottom reflectors, that will ruin them.

H4 bulb housings are about the worst headlights to put HID in, because of the fact that they use one housing for both low and hi beam. You are better off retro'ing a set of projectors in there, of if the oddy housing will allow it, put in an rl or tl hid reflector housing into it. casper shields will help a bit, but not too much. there are h4 hi-low kits that allow the bulb to move back and forth, with a shield attached, to help with the glare. I had one of those kits though, and the wiring was a bitch to figure out, and not worth it, as it didn't help much more than just regular casper shields.

I've got the H4 HID's from Mod Express in my FJ & just ordered another set ofr the wifes Previa, they should be in today. I like the pattern & get flashed less than when I had standard IPF Halogens in it.

actually it's LESS about the housing and more about the hid bulb shielding coverage.

look at all the oem stock hid housings, the bulb is is about 75 percent shielded-blocked.

make your own shields.  get some tin and start cutting.  i used aluminum cans and cut them up.  no more high beams from on coming traffic :D

Do you have pics to show me what it looks like? Did you have to open the housing to install your DIY shield?

I couldn't agree with you more. Painting is permanant and there are bulbs out ther with shields built in. but i cant justify spending even more money while the current bulbs haven't burned yet.
 
Actually, i should have never installed this kit. i should have done a full projector retrofit or no HID at all.
