How'd you end up VIP?

i was just wondering how ppl got into vip styling.

for me, i was surfing around looking for parts to build my car. i was planning on what most ppl would consider a dub build (bags, 20s, shaved) with a jdm front end which meant i needed a jdm kit. then somewhere along the way i read that article that is on the front page of this site. i remember thinking "that sounds perfect" and "this is going to be the future". at the time i had kind of drifted away from cars and little did i know it had already caught on. i remember talking about wheels and saying "i'm going to buy 20x7.5 rims because i'm going vip". somebody was kind enough to tell me that wasn't vip (in a not so kind way), which lead me to do more research. thats how i got here. i hear people say "it's the new trendy thing" but to this day i have yet to see a vip car in person. granted, i don't get out much these days. i saw one on tv a couple days ago... this has all happened within the last year.

I was into VW's before I got into VIP and in the euro scene, stance is just as important as in VIP. I ran a 19x10 with a 235/35/19 on the back end of my GTI, with my subframe LITERALLY 3/8" off the ground. I loved shooting road turtles at tailgaters. I had always wanted to get into sedans and the second gen GS had been my favorite sedan since I had first seen one at the auto show in 1997. I was still stuck on euros and was looking at getting an A6 until I ran across a KILLER deal on the 2002 GS that I have had for the last year. If there had never been a VIP scene I would have still been running super flush wheels with stretched tires because thats what I think looks the best on damn near any car. A friend offered me $4k more than I had into my GS so I gladly parted ways with it and now I have my y33 and love it to death. Its only been 3 weeks and I cannot wait to get this thing squatting proper.

i ran across the vip culture because the car i inherited dictated it. my grandparents told me that they would give me their ls400 when i got old enough, so i went on the search for ls400 parts.

thats when i came across this site!

It was all thanks to JDMJIM...he is pretty much the only full blow vipstylecar/ wagon here in Illinois....i've gone thru some changes in the past months...including the selling of my xb. so for a minute i thought and bought a honda civic ef and thought of just doing the whole jdm racers $hit....but my heart and mind is on bippu stlyle...so Im now debating on either an 95 honda ody or an early 90's LS... the budget is tight due to purchasing a home so i can deal with either or.....

i had my hondas (ls-turbo civic coupe, 3 crx's, show car prelude)
my old car (74' porsche 911)
fast car (400+ awhp show subaru wrx)
so i just felt like ive completed what id like to as far as the tuning aspect goes. im a little older now with a stable professional job, so id like to reflect that image. those cars were fun then, but now i wanted something thatd be more of a long term investment.. not just a toy.

VIP first appealed to me when i still had my 240. Used to see pictures of big body sedans and thought "damn that's gangster." but never thought i could afford to get into it. After realizing my family was growing i decided to get out of the 2dr sporty stage and into the grown man 4dr sedan. I remember seeing Antbo's GS and thought damn i want a 4dr like that. So thanks to Antbo for pointing me in the direction of Autofashion. From there i acquired my LS400 and BAM! Also wanna give thanks to Freddie, Elroy, Kevin, Emu & the homies affiliated with the shop that helped opened my eyes alot more into the ways of VIP tuning.

I have always been into my Japanese cars, had three skylines now in different guises, an S13 and a couple of seriously modified MX5's. I have been moaning to my friends for as long as I can remember that I want a VIP car - the look, the luxury, the status.. it all appeals so much!

The car I have now I stumbled apon just by sheer chance, and it happened that the owner liked my car too (Skyline R33 gtst) so we just swapped outright. He got something fast and stylish and I got me a VIP car.

I have a lot to learn about VIP'ing cars, and ideally want to do my own up one day - a gloria most likely or a cima - but for now im loving the celsior :D

Back in 2000 I had a shop and hooked up with my buyer in Osaka. He had been into VIP for years on Japan and introduced me to the style. I had a first Gen turbo IS300 that I worked some VIP styling cues like molded fender flairs, wide bodykit style with door panels, and lowered the car. Yes...I've been told many times that the IS300 is not VIP and my car was not VIP styled, but back in 2001, it was a fairly fresh and new look here in the USA.

i have also always liked the big rim low look. back when i used to build cars (mostly fullsize trucks) i remember i'd get really hype when i saw a big body import layed out. when i think back this one stands out:

Forum image

never liked the wheels, but everything else was on point. when you think back are there any cars that you loved that would have fit the vip style?

firelizard: we both know how we feel about that, but lets leave the dead horse alone.

Had my SC300 for a few years, took a lil from VIP as far as wheel fitment. After some douce ran a red light and t-boned my SC, I picked up my LS430. I just love the fact that you can take a big ballin ass car, and make it even more sick with big kits and aggressive wheels.. The VIP scene to me is like quicksand, I fell in feet first but im slowly being consumed by it all.

I always loved the Q45. My best friends bro used to pick me up in his G50 in the mid 90's and it made a pressance. Later on he got the Y33 and I loved that car too. I was in the Market for an 2001-2002 Ls430 back in 2004 but couldnt find one to my liking, it was a no brainer for me to get the F50 since it had more options then the LS's of those years. The Blonde Birdseye maple and reclining back seats had me sold instantly. I was actually planning to keep it EXE looking but car modding is a bad addiction for me. I cant leave a car alone for longer then 2 months. Even if it means fixing things that no one will even notice

I was working at a retail shop for tuner parts and was looking for the newest thing out there and ran into the whole VIP concept..... dropped it when my employer said it would never come stateside, that was in 2004.... then in August of 2006 I bought my G35 and was just thinking of throwing some clean wheels and coilovers, when my business partner ( fixedtl ) told me to choose some "real" wheels and not some Zinik crap......he started an addiction that would end up escalating to $18,000 later with a G35 like no other.... never regretted anything on this journey, especially him recommending this site and the day I finally signed up so I could post!

i found this site and bam, into VIP.
i love the large engine, low as fuck, luxurious japanese style. here in NZ theres waaaaay too many modded euros with 18s/19s that are kinda dub style but just look like they have taken a stock car, shortened shocks/lowering springs, tinted the windows and added wheels. not much to it except that it is kinda 'stereotypical gangster'.

i just though VIP was something different but still gangster as fuck because celsiors look mean as hell with some dish, camber and VIP stylings. now ive been sucked into the whole scene haha

One of my friends had this beautiful car, and i had not seen anyone else around here w/ that kind of styling just hondas and acuras all spocom crazy. Everytime I saw his car there would be something different going on and man I wish it was mine. I was like "I know this guy that tricks out higher end cars.". Then as time progressed I began to see all the peeps round my age begin to purchase Beemers and Benzos, gettin' out of the 4cyl game and gettin' better jobs. I thought he was way ahead of the game, and when he told me that he was finished w/ his project and was ready for a new one, I jokingly said "cool then I got dibs on your car." and he was like someone else does first,:saiyancrunks: but I may have a shot cuz they are laggin'. Honestly I never thought I would end up w/ it, but I did..

Hehe I have an S13 vert now. I was looking into getting a G50 or Y33 for my daily driver but I don't know yet. We'll see.

I got into VIP a couple years ago. I think it was back in 03-04. I was in a store...or maybe it was a supermarket. I can't remember. Anyways I saw this magazine with a bunch of black Japanese sedans on the cover (Celsior, Chaser, etc.) and I just started flipping through it. It had a really long and interesting article about VIP and provided lots of pics. I thought it was pretty neat that were people who really dedicated themselves to modifying Japanese luxury sedans...rather than just the regular throw on some ugly ass over-sized chrome wheels and call it a day deal. One day out of nowhere (aka about 2 years later) I decided to look for websites dedicated to VIP...I don't remember why. I stumbled across this website and I remember reading the lengthy article about what VIP is. Names were mentioned in the article such as Junction Produce. That really helped me with my search and I ended up stumbling across quite a few more websites. I became hooked on VIP. I have to say it's good knowing there's a forum devoted to it. A lot of other forums really despise it...passing it off as "ghetto" or the "same things rappers do."

That's my story. Damn I really wish I remembered the name of that magazine. Maybe someone can help me out? My memory sucks.

I was a huge fan of the low and wide euros, MB, BMW from when I was a teenager. Then from there it went to me loving the VW poke/stretch look, and then I got bored with ClubLexus and by the grace of God above this website came along....and hey, I just happened to have a VIP platform vehicle, so why not??? 8D

i never realized it, but i thought the Y34 M45 was sick back when i was only 13 years old too.

after i looked into the VIP scene 6 years later. i noticed that it was the same car as they one i had loved 6 years ago as a little kid.

My TL is not VIP, but I saw VIP styling in Rev-01's TL that inspired me.

Then I started looking around and bumped into this site..

i was tired of the racer boy look and the term JDM was getting tossed out just a bit too much here (philippines) so i tried looking for something different. then i saw this dude with a JP sticker and looked it up in the net until i eventually stumbled upon this site. =)

When I bought my Q 4 years ago, I wanted a Q because I remember hearing on 2 Guys Garage what a great buy used Q45's were years ago and it always stuck with me. I liked the idea of a large, V8 powered rwd sedan and decided to build a M5 inspired Japanese version. Quickly I discovered how hard it was to find anything at all for Q45's back then and stumbled across pics of Japanese Cimas and soon thereafter found this site. So my plan changed from M5 inspired to VIP inspired, but driving joy is still #1 for me. I like the blend of luxury and performance, so I made up FalkLuxurySports.com to try and help other US Q45 owners. Now it's not so difficult to find parts (still no performance parts though) thanks to MemoryFab, AutoFashion, etc. but at the time, it was damn near impossible to find stuff for these cars.

back in 2003, my friend brought back a vip car and vip style magazine from japan, at this time no one in hawaii did it up VIP style, only luxury exe style or dub style... after i saw that i was determined to sell my TL and pick up a real VIP car, the rest is history

I just got tired of the racing scene. People trying to steal your car all the time, cops harassing you every chance they get, shitting bricks everytime I'd pass a cop. And most of all, not having enough room to take my friends around with me. It gets old rolling 5 cars deep just to go out to eat since everyones car only has 1 seat :pat:

Plus I just wanted something that was comfortable, and looked more "baller" than a fixed up civic lol

im not like most other kids, i always had a classy and unique style.

i really liked the 03-04 M45 when i was about in 7th grade, and before i knew about tuning cars or any body kits. same with the older Q's and LS
