i was just wondering how you get under the car? say you had a flat, how do you get a jack under there. i am just wondering because i am considering using coilovers on my sporty style a32 (vip style a32 will be on air) to showcase a product from one of my manufacturers. i chose this forum rather than my maxima forum because they're scared to get low with only a few exceptions. i have had trouble getting my car on an alignment rack with just a small drop.

hmmm just guessing, but i would use those small ramps that would elavate one corner.  Just enough space to put a jack underneath. You can buy them online somewhere.

Yeah, I saw an example of them in my latest Modified Mag, you can get low profile ramps that you drive up onto and they raise your car enough to get a jack under it.

Few 2 x 4s work as well...

I agree. Ive always used a short 2x4 nailed on top of a long 2x4. If jacking up from the rear my little low pro jack has never had a problem.

any links/manufacturers on the ramps? who makes a quality low pro jack?

Get a low profile race jack.. I got mines from Harbor Freight, I dont know if you have any of those around you or not, paid like 150, works like a gem.. To get on an alignment rack, 2 x 4' s like everyone has said, I use drive on a couple to get my jack under the car, but got tired so I got the jack...

I asked a similiar question on another forum.  Some people said 2x4's some even said phone books

checked out harbor freight and they have a 3 1/4" low pro fast jack. sounds like a winner to me if the warranty is decent.

I have to take my bumper off then jack up the car from the tow hook. if the front, the rears with a low jack (not lo-jack) I can get to the Diff ok and jack it up from there. 
Bottle jacks=never

The phone book is easier on the kit if you really are that low!!

I carry 1.5"x6"x2' blocks of wood in my boot. For the rear i only need to roll onto one of them, for the front i usually need to roll onto both.

Even with the lowest low profile jack, if your kit is low you wont be able to jack it up.

scottleone, could i [i]drive[/i] as low as that cima on air?

And when you have air, and one of your lines break or bags leak, how do you jack up your car? Same method really...

air? what do you mean? they make suspensions with air?

this question is for a non-vip style build. i just figured since ppl get low around here this would be the best place to ask. i will just be running a small lip kit on this one with ~2"-3" drop, so clearance will be tight but not crucial. and yes, i was being sarcastic above and i will be using air on my vip style i30 build.

Air would be great but:

1. He wanted to know about users with coilovers
2. Not everyone can afford air 
but I guess that would be something to sconsider before buying a kit and coilovers.

Air is the best solution, I love it.  I dont think you can have a big kit, and be dumpt here in Houston without having air.  Unless you want to pay for body kit repairs and what not. :-/

Air is great until a bag pops. The reason i learnt all the tricks for getting a Jack under a low car was because my bag popped in my Cima. I could get my thumb under tre front bar but nothing else.
Only way up was to roll back and forth over progressively bigger blocks.

So.. No, air is not the ANSWER to this problem. Just a way of avoiding it for a while

I have the red, low profile Craftsman jack from Sears and just drive up onto 2" x 8" so it can fit under there.  My Stillen lip (when I had it) could flex a considerable amount to.  I was about 3.25" down from stock with a lip kit.

The stock scissor jacks that came with both my cars are pretty good. I crank the wheel to one side, and slip the jack in behind it, then raise it enough to get a real jack under the car.

One of two ways:

1. Race jack w/ some blocks; slide jack under then place blocks on jack (to avoid crushing your s.skrt).
2. Phonebook; slowly drive over a phonebook then insert jack. (trust me, it works) Unless you live in a poduck town w/ pop. of 100.

I accidentally bent my stock scissor jack in half when my car toppled over it (since coilover suspension is so stiff it lifted the entire side up and the car leaned over and collapsed.  Scary but fortunately I recovered from it without messing up anything.

i had a similar problem where the car almost landed on me. ever since the, i uses jackstands, bricks, floor jacks, and scissor jacks, all at one time. lol. can never be too cautious when working underneath a car.
go to junkyards and look for the stock scissor jacks. a lot of cars will have them. thats why i have so many.

I use wood much like yokota's pic and also a low profile race jack.  Worth every penny.

I've tried the Takata LDS ramps as well and they are nice but spendy.  If you're really low then they won't help.

I use scissor jacks as well. It has an attachment for a hex drive, so I use that in my impact gun and the car rises quickly.  Then it's on to the jackstands.

I use 3/4" wood book shelving.   Drive up in series on like 4 of those and I can get a jack under it again.    (the back wasnt down all the way either on this pic)
